Jefferson County Parks & Recreation is seeking a part-time Program Instructor to lead recreational youth soccer in Shenandoah Junction, WV. The role involves teaching basic skills, promoting teamwork, and fostering an active lifestyle for children of various ages.

Job Summary:

The part-time Program Instructor will lead recreational soccer programs for children of various ages. The instructor will teach basic soccer skills through fun, age-appropriate activities while encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, confidence, and an active lifestyle.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• This position does not supervise other staff.

Duties / Responsibilities:

• Plan and lead engaging soccer activities for children of different ages and skill levels.
• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans that introduce basic soccer skills, including dribbling, passing, and shooting.
• Create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
• Maintain attendance records and other required program documentation.
• Organize, maintain, and properly store program supplies and equipment.
• Complete class setup and cleanup.
• Communicate important program information with parents and guardians.
• Follow all JCPRC policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of soccer skills, rules, and recreational activities.
• Ability to work effectively with children and communicate professionally with parents and supervisors.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certification.

Education, Experience and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least 1.5 years of experience in recreational programs, childcare, coaching, or working with children is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous soccer playing, coaching, or instructional experience preferred.
• Must successfully pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:

• Work environment includes indoor community center facilities and outdoor park settings, with potential exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather.
• Position requires periods of standing, walking, running.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds.
