Taltran Global has been exclusively retained by a growing provider of advanced avionics and aircraft systems serving the aerospace and defense industries. Based in the DFW area, this private equity-backed organization develops and delivers high-performance, mission-critical technologies for leading aircraft manufacturers and operators. With continued growth and investment in new product development, the company offers an opportunity to join a highly collaborative environment with significant exposure to customers, engineering, and senior leadership.
Our client is seeking a Program Engineer to lead technically complex aerospace programs from initial development through qualification, certification, and production. This position sits at the intersection of engineering, program execution, and customer management, working closely with engineering teams throughout the product-development lifecycle while maintaining ownership of schedule, cost, risk, requirements, and overall program performance.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation and experience supporting the design and development of aerospace or other highly regulated products, including exposure to formal design reviews, testing, qualification, and production readiness. This individual should be comfortable working directly with engineers and customers, understanding technical issues, and translating those issues into clear program actions and decisions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded program or project professional who wants broader ownership, significant customer exposure, and the opportunity to grow into senior leadership within a fast-growing aerospace organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead assigned aerospace programs through the full product-development lifecycle, from initial requirements and design through testing, qualification/certification, production readiness, and launch.
- Partner closely with engineering teams throughout product development to understand technical requirements, design maturity, dependencies, and potential program impacts.
- Participate in and help drive formal design reviews, including PDRs, CDRs, and other technical milestone/gate reviews, ensuring actions and open items are resolved.
- Monitor technical maturity and design progress against program milestones and proactively identify issues that could affect schedule, cost, performance, or customer commitments.
- Coordinate engineering activities associated with design changes, testing, qualification, certification, integration, and transition into production.
- Develop and maintain integrated program schedules, budgets/financial forecasts, resource plans, milestones, and risk registers.
- Serve as a key interface with OEM customers, communicating technical and program requirements, schedules, risks, changes, deliverables, and overall program status.
- Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing/operations, supply chain, quality, certification, and other internal teams to drive successful program execution.
- Identify technical, schedule, supply-chain, and operational risks early and lead cross-functional teams in developing and implementing mitigation and recovery plans.
- Translate technical challenges into clear program-level impacts and communicate critical issues, decisions, and recommendations to customers and senior leadership.
- Ensure programs successfully transition from development and qualification into repeatable production.
- Bring structure and accountability to program execution while remaining comfortable working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
- Support continued development and implementation of scalable program-management processes and best practices as the organization grows.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another technical discipline preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in aerospace, avionics, aviation, defense, or another highly regulated technical environment, with experience in program/project engineering, program management, product development, or a related role.
- Demonstrated experience working with engineering teams throughout the product-development lifecycle, ideally from initial design through testing/qualification and production.
- Experience participating in or leading technical/design reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, or equivalent engineering stage-gate reviews.
- Working knowledge of engineering development, qualification/testing, design changes, technical risk, and production readiness.
- Ability to understand technical information and work effectively with engineering subject-matter experts; the individual does not need to be the product's design engineer, but must be technically capable of leading programs involving complex engineered products.
- Experience developing and managing program schedules, budgets/costs, forecasts, resources, milestones, and risk-management plans.
- Strong customer-facing experience, preferably working directly with aircraft OEMs, airlines, defense customers, or other technically sophisticated customers.
- Experience coordinating across engineering, supply chain, quality, manufacturing/operations, and other functional teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical issues into clear business, schedule, cost, and customer impacts.
- Self-directed, curious, adaptable, and comfortable taking broad ownership in a smaller, high-growth organization.
- Desire to continue developing technically and professionally with the potential to grow into broader program or organizational leadership.
