Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley in Knoxville seeks a Program Director to oversee out‑of‑school activities, ensuring academic success, healthy lifestyles, and positive citizenship. You will work with the Executive/Club Director to shape club programs and monitor youth progress.

The role requires strong leadership, grant experience, and the ability to coordinate staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of age and a high school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of experience with youth and/or grant management preferred.
  • Must pass local, state, and national background checks and initial drug screening.
  • CPR Certification offered by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley post-hire.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain program goals.
  • Continuously evaluate and modify programs to respond to youth needs.
  • Document youth attendance, engagement, achievements, and concerns with membership tracking.
  • Complete grant reports and conduct pre- and post-surveys for grant-funded programs.
  • Monitor all program areas, staff, and youth to ensure safety; prioritize member safety.
  • Offer one-on-one mentoring to at-risk youth and serve as a role model.
  • Delegate lesson-planning to staff and guide delivery of programs to meet learning styles.
  • Assist in interviewing, selecting, and training new staff; liaise with parents, schools, and community groups.
  • Connect with parents and schools to promote programs and schedule meetings.
  • Arrange and conduct club tours for potential members and partners.
  • Complete administrative paperwork and manage expenditures within budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY: The Program Director oversees out-of-school activities and programs to ensure all youth achieve academic success, maintain healthy lifestyles, and embody good character and citizenship. The Program Director works closely with the Executive or Club Director to help manage the Club.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Establish and maintain program goals. Continuously evaluate and modify programs to ensure they respond to the needs of all youthDocument youth attendance, engagement, achievements, and concerns within specific programs and within the Club with designated membership tracking systemsComplete grant reports. Conduct pre- and post-surveys with youth to assess grant-funded programs. Document pre- and post-survey data within grant-specific databasesMonitor all program areas, Club staff, and youth to ensure staff and member safety. Prioritize member safetyOffer one-on-one mentoring to at-risk youth. Serve as a role model to all youthDelegate lesson-planning to Club staff and provide guidance to Club staff to ensure the successful delivery of programs to youth and offer alternative activities to meet every child’s needs and learning styleAssist Executive or Club Director in interviewing, selecting, and training new Club staffServe as liaison between youth, parents/guardians, schools, community groups, and Club staff to foster positive outcomes for youthConnect with parents/guardians, schools, and Club members to promote Club programs and opportunities and scheduling for parents and membersArrange and conduct Club tours to potential members and parents/guardians and to community partnersComplete administrative paperwork such as member accident reports, supply orders, transportation logs, etc. Answer and direct incoming callsManage program, activity, and partial Club expenditures within allocated budgetPerform other duties as assignedADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Administers daily operations of the Club in absence of Executive Director or Club DirectorMaintain cleanliness and organization of the Club per state and organization standardsProvide meals to youth per United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) standardsIdentify methods by which to recruit additional Club membersSupervise youth on school busesCoordinate Club programs, activities, field trips, and other special eventsSKILLS & ABILITIES:Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook)Excellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent conflict resolution skillsAbility to manage sensitive and confidential situationsAbility to effectively collaborate with parents/guardians, staff, directors, youth, and the communityAbility to meet the needs of youth of all ages and backgrounds and to modify lesson plans to meet individual needsEfficiently use standard office equipment such as printers, fax machines, and phonesAbility to lift and move up to 40 poundsAbility to remain active, energetic, and mobileREQUIREMENTS:18+ years of ageHigh school diploma or GED required1-2 years of experience with youth and/or grant management preferredMust pass local, state, and national criminal background checksMust pass initial drug screening and subsequent drug testsCPR Certification (certification offered by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley post-hire)Passion for children!
