Job summary

POSITION SUMMARY

This Program Director position will be responsible for both Wellness and Membership Departments, with the primary focus being Wellness. The Program Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction & supervision for the activities of a variety of departments within the Branch. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage equipment needed in assigned department programs.
  • Promote, administer and lead in the development of all activities in designated departments.
  • Prepare budgets for assigned departments and work within the guidelines of those budgets.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises numerous employees in a variety of branch departments, but does not supervise subordinate supervisors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (Preferred).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in written, verbal and non-verbal venues. Ability to identify a problem and plan for and execute a solution to achieve a desired outcome, involving others as needed. Ability to resolve conflict, negotiating solutions to serve the best interests of individuals, teams and the Y.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; taste or smell; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities that may be required based on specific department responsibilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Certifications: CPR/AED, First Aid, Blood borne pathogen training required after hire and must remain current. Specific Branch requirements may include YMCA Super Sports Certification, Guilford County DSS Licensing.
