Job summary

Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) seeks a WIIN Program Intern to assist lead testing outreach across schools and childcare facilities. You will help identify sites, develop educational materials, and manage data with guidance from the Lead Program team.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a degree with an interest in public health and health equity, and experience in program coordination or community outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with identifying and prioritizing schools and child care facilities for lead testing.

  • Develop and update educational materials and program resources.
  • Provide technical assistance to facilities during enrollment and testing.
  • Track program participation and key metrics.
  • Assist with data management and tool development to track activities.
  • Review data to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the team on new ideas to strengthen the program.
  • You will be coached by the Lead Program Manager and work with the Lead Program team.

The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) offers schools and child care facilities across Arizona the opportunity to test their drinking water for lead at no cost. Supported through the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, the program combines facility outreach, education, technical assistance, and data management to support lead testing efforts across the state. You would be a great fit if you have a strong interest in public health, environmental health, health education and promotion, health equity, program implementation, community engagement, and working with diverse community partners and organizations.


Job Duties:


  • Assist with identifying and prioritizing schools and child care facilities for lead testing based on need and using a health equity lens.

  • Support outreach and communication with schools and child care facilities to increase awareness and participation.

  • Develop and update educational materials and program resources.

  • Provide technical assistance to facilities throughout the enrollment and testing process.

  • Track program participation, outreach activities, and other key program metrics.

  • Assist with data management, including developing and improving tools used to track program activities.

  • Review program data to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.

  • Collaborate with the team on new ideas and strategies to strengthen the program.


You will be coached and mentored by the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Manager and work closely with the rest of the Lead Program team on projects and program activities.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):


  • Strong, verbal and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Google Workspace, including Google Sites, Forms, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive.

  • Time management, organization, planning and organizational skills

  • Customer service skills


Selective Preference(s):


  • Working towards a degree and strong desire to develop beyond the classroom.

  • Experience in program management or coordination including volunteer/internship and campus-based experience.

  • Experience (including volunteer/internship), coursework, or interest in public health, children's health, or environmental health


Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).
