Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking an experienced Office Supervisor III to join the Motor Carrier Services team in Blythewood, SC. The role guides staff in processing credentials, manages daily MCS tasks, and supports regulatory reporting across IRP, IFTA, UCR, and related programs.

Job description

If so, we may have an opportunity for you! We are seeking an experienced Office Supervisor to join our team. The SCDMV helps maximize value through vendor relationships and ensures our internal and external business partners have the tools they need to succeed.

This position is located in Motor Carrier Services / Motor Carrier Processing - Headquarters, Blythewood, SC.
Responsibilities of the Office Supervisor III
  • Assists the public and staff with the submission of documents for the issuance of credentials. Guides staff in MCS transactions for all specialized programs (i.e. IRP, IFTA, UCR, etc.), interstate and intrastate CMV's, including but not limited to title work, new IRP/IFTA accounts and eforms, reinstatements, renewals, add, transfers, add w/transfer, delete vehicles, HVUT tax, IFTA tax returns, amendments, and decals, IRP/IFTA inventory, and other non-routine transactions.
  • Provides staff support to all office-related tasks associated with the daily processing of all MCS tasks. Assigns incoming internal, external, and electronic mail for processing, monitors activity, and backlogs. Maintains productivity log and output percentages and reports to management. Monitors call/email queue for Motor Carrier Information Center (MCIC), TeamIA portal, and provides support as needed.
  • Process PRISM USDOT discrepancies and FMCSA out of service reports; reviews error reports and makes corrections to support a report of Good Standing with FMCSA; Process IFTA suspension for non-filers; Update account status and report suspended, closed, revoked and reinstated accounts and clear heavy use tax suspensions. Other reporting as needed in the advancement of MCS Programs, FHWA/IRS, and FMCSA/PRISM requirements.
  • Conduct historical research for unusual situations involving motor carriers. Provides supporting documentation to management on complex and detailed inquiries from the public, law enforcement, government officials, SCTA, FMCSA, insurance representatives and court officials.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, etc. to keep abreast of latest trends in IRP, IFTA, UCR, RUF and COC for federal and state reporting. Assist in the development and revision of policies and business processes that pertain to MCS. Maintain desk aids and training materials for MCS Processing. Performs other duties as required by the Processing Manager and Chief of MCS.
  • Performs other job duties as related to the position.
Minimum Requirements
  • A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
Agency Requirements
  • A high school diploma and 2 years' supervisory experience. An associate's degree and relevant work experience or bachelor's degree may be substituted for relevant experience.
  • Must complete a nationwide criminal background check to include finger printing.

  • Knowledge of agency, federal and state laws, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to the specific administrative/management function.

  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of subordinate personnel.

  • Ability to analyze operations and provide feedback.
  • Extensive knowledge of business practices and methods as they relate to motor vehicle and tax laws.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal motor vehicle registration laws, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Responsible for leading a complex work unit.
  • Employee will be expected to exercise judgement and make decisions based upon departmental policies and procedures.
  • Requires a high degree of self-motivation, integrity, initiative and professionalism.
  • Works in general office environment.
  • May be required to work extended hours outside of the normal scheduled workweek.
  • Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs.
  • The work requires sitting for prolonged periods of time and significant time spent at a computer terminal.
  • Limited travel may be required.
  • Works under limited supervision after a period of training.
  • Must ensure that SCDMV policies and operational procedures are followed.
