Job summary

South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) is seeking an Assistant Office Supervisor II in Blythewood, SC. The role involves managing transactions, customer inquiries, and DMV operations to ensure timely processing and accurate data handling.

  • Responds to routine customer inquiries by mail, in person, and via telephone, email or fax.
  • Manages business customer relations, DMV product distribution, and issue resolution; supports DMV field office operations.
  • Uses the DMV Phoenix system to enter, retrieve, update, and provide data for customers, courts, and law enforcement; maintains a tracking system for inquiries.
  • Interprets laws, policies, and procedures; recommends changes to support improvement.
  • Creates and monitors scheduled breaks, lunch periods, and attendance.
  • Monitors employee production and mentors, coaches, and evaluates personnel.
  • Handles unit personnel matters including hiring, discipline, time and attendance; ensures EPMS reviews are completed on time.
  • Coordinates cross training with other units within Vehicle Services.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Specialty Plates Manager.

Job description

This position is located in the Vehicle Services/License Plate Unit, SCDMV Headquarters, Blythewood, S.C.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Office Supervisor II
  • Processes transactions including, but not limited to, issuing registration cards, license plates, and decals. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of all unit processes and ensures work is completed within five business days of receipt. Reviews documents for accuracy and compliance and prepares materials for scanning.
  • Responds to routine customer inquiries by mail, in person, and through telephone, email, or fax.
  • Manages business customer relations, information dissemination, DMV product distribution, and issue resolution. Supports DMV field office operations and advises customers on payments, services, and required documentation. Resolves customer inquiries and problems through thorough record research.
  • Uses the DMV Phoenix system to enter, retrieve, update, and provide data for customers, courts, and law enforcement. Maintains a tracking system for customer inquiries, reconciles transaction reports, and ensures an accurate cash drawer.
  • Interprets laws, policies, and procedures, and recommends changes to support continuous departmental improvement.
  • Responsible for creating and monitoring scheduled breaks, lunch periods, and attendance.
  • Responsible for monitoring employee production and for mentoring, coaching, and evaluating assigned personnel.
  • Responsible for all unit personnel matters, including hiring, progressive disciplinary actions, time and attendance, and performance issues. Ensures Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews are completed by the scheduled due date. Proactively communicates notable improvements and concerns to the unit manager.
  • Coordinate and plan cross training with other units within Vehicle Services.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Specialty Plates Manager.
Minimum Requirements
  • A high school diploma and relevant program experience.
Agency Requirements
  • Must complete a nationwide criminal background check to include finger printing.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to learn and explain policy and procedures to DMV customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills.
  • Works under general supervision after a period of training.
  • Works in general office environment.
  • May be required to work extended hours outside of the normal scheduled work week.
  • Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs.
  • The work requires sitting for long prolonged periods of time and significant time spent at a computer terminal.
Agency Preferred
  • A high school diploma and two (2) years related job experience. An equivalent education and relevant experience may be accepted with prior approval.
