Job description

The Center for Diversity & Inclusion at Johns Hopkins University fosters a sense of belonging for students by providing intentional engagement and holistic support using an intersectional lens. Through our programs and services, students are empowered to develop a sense of self, work across differences, and create equitable and transformative change. Specifically, our programs advance and strengthen: 1) student lifecycles through access, retention, and success; 2) large-scale community events and celebrations; 3) co-curricular education and training through online and in-person modalities.

We are seeking a Program Coordinator for Special Projects who will welcome and assist with facilitating positive adjustment to college expectations. Directly supporting the center’s initiatives within the International Students at Hopkins and/or Multicultural Affairs programs with an ability to support student experiences with a global and mentoring mindset. This role is an in-person/onsite position.

This position requires an ability to engage students, collaborate with campus departments and community stakeholders, and generate excitement about upcoming programs and activities. The Program Coordinator will also demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for diversity and display excellent cross-cultural communication skills. Evenings and some weekends are expected, and the work schedule will be developed around program demands.

Specific Duties & Responsibiities

Administrative (40%)

  • Assist with procuring and managing programming and office supplies and tabling giveaways for each initiative.

  • Create social media efforts for events, resources, trainings, and advertisements.

  • Manage on-site reservations for programming and training events.

  • Other duties as assigned

Programming (40%)

  • Assist with pre-orientation program inviting new students.

  • Assist team leads with development and implementation of full-year programming events supporting the cultural exploration of students within the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.

Staff Supervision (20%)

  • Manage meetings and notes for weekly team meetings.

  • Supervise 1-2 undergraduate interns.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Creativity and ability to coordinate cultural, social, or educational programs.

  • Prior experience working with college students is preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in MS Office and Canva.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, and excellent customer support skills.

Related Work Experience

  • Previous experience with planning events in a university setting and working with a variety of populations is preferred.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.

  • Four years progressively responsible administrative experience.

  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Prior experience working with college students.

  • Previous experience with planning events in a university setting and working with a variety of populations.
