Job summary

EDMO is seeking a Program Coordinator for our after-school program in California. The role leads EDMO tools and practices, supports partner sites, trains staff, oversees daily activities, and ensures safety and quality across programs.

Strong coaching, budgeting, and relationship-building skills are essential. The position is part-time (30 hours/week) in-person at EDMO sites; CPR/First Aid and a degree in education or related field are required, with EDMO’s instructional exam included.

Position Overview

The Program Coordinator serves as the lead EDMO site admin for sites where another partner agency serves as lead. They assist the partner in overseeing all aspects of their assigned comprehensive after-school program, fully leading EDMO tools and practices, including pre-season training, in-season program management, staff coaching and management, and student interactions. The Program Coordinator ensures smooth operation of daily program activities (snack time, outdoor play, homework help, SEL and STEAM activities). Responsibilities vary by partnership/site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains a positive relationship with all key contacts of the partnership.
  • Cultivates healthy relationships with all site staff including Principals, Office Staff, Teachers, and Custodians.
  • Meets regularly with EDMO and the partner agency site staff to ensure smooth collaboration.
  • Manages site budget, ensures all line items are within agreed budget, and reconciles actuals bi-weekly.
  • Ensures payroll stays within budget and timesheets are accurate.
  • Leads and supervises employee teams, recognizes issues and applies problem solving.
  • Observes student behavior, applies appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Collaborates with Recruiting to recruit, hire, and train effective program staff.
  • Provides ongoing coaching, progressive counseling, and goal setting for program staff.
  • Conducts performance reviews and evaluations.
  • Implements EDMO’s program policies and procedures.
  • Plans and implements program activities for "Community Week" with partners.
  • Adheres to program standards, including safety and cleanliness.
  • Leads all site staff meetings and training, including safety demonstrations.
  • Trains, coaches, and manages a team of Instructors (and a Program Assistant if applicable).
  • Participates in all program training, professional development, and in-season meetings.
  • Provides exceptional customer service, addressing issues involving children, staff, partners, and families.
  • Communicates with families as directed by partners to keep them informed.
  • Manages site inventory of EDMO supplies.
  • Demonstrates and promotes the SEL skills of Self-Awareness, Problem-Solving, Advocacy, Collaboration, and Empathy.
  • Completes all assigned tasks and meets deadlines.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned to support program success.
Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Passion and experience working with children.
  • Experience working with youth of all ages.
  • Previous involvement in an after-school environment.
  • Proven experience hiring, coaching, and managing employees.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
  • High sense of responsibility and dependability.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in interactions with partners, families, and via computer.
  • Skilled in problem-solving, multi-tasking, creativity, and flexibility.
  • Experience facilitating groups of children and proven classroom management.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field.
  • Completion of 48 college units.
  • Ability to take and pass the EDMO Instructional Exam.

Additionally:

  • CPR/First Aid Certification required by start date (includes in-person CPR component). Compensation will be provided if not already certified.
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions
  • Vision: Ability to read small print and view a computer screen for prolonged periods.
  • Hearing: Ability to tolerate noisy conditions.
  • Speech: Ability to be understood in face-to-face communication and over phone or computer.
  • Upper Body Mobility: Ability to use hands, grasp, manipulate small objects, twist and bend at wrist and elbow, extend arms, lift objects, turn, raise, and lower head.
  • Strength: Ability to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds, move bins of supplies, and physically restrain parties if needed.
  • Environmental Requirements: Ability to handle constant work interruptions, work cooperatively, independently, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mental Requirements: Ability to read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderate complexity level; high school math skills; judgment; ability to process information quickly; learn quickly; give verbal instruction; rank tasks; manage stress.

Compensation and Working Hours

Regular, part-time position: 30 hours per week. Pay rate $27-$29 per hour, commensurate with experience and location.
