Job summary

The Salvation Army Rathgeber Center in Austin, TX is seeking a Supervisory role to oversee day-to-day social services operations and ensure program compliance. You will prepare client records and reports, and build relationships with community agencies to provide referrals.

Responsibilities include needs assessment, intake and case planning, crisis intervention facilitation, and grant writing as needed. A high school diploma or GED is required, with nonprofit experience preferred.

Job Summary

Supervises, coordinates, monitors, and participates in the day-to-day operations of the social services related programs ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures; prepares client an statistical records/reports; builds relationships with other agencies in the community in order to serve as an advocate for the client and to make appropriate referrals; performs a variety of clerical and secretarial work necessary for the smooth operation of the Corps; researches and writes grants as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities (10%)
  • Plans, directs, and supervises the day-to-day duties of assigned staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; provides input to performance evaluations and the interview process.
Social Services Responsibilities (40%)
  • Interviews applicants to determine eligibility for program enrollment based on established guidelines and requirements; conduct needs assessment, obtains pertinent information and establish program goals for eligible clients; refers applicants to other agencies if not appropriate for program.
  • Develops client intake and case plans for clients; instructs clients in completing necessary paperwork including goals and/or budget forms; completes orientation check-off form and obtains release of information forms when appropriate; completes social history on new clients each week.
  • Meets regularly with clients to discuss and evaluate their progress; prepares accurate and up-to-date records documenting the same; monitors client behavior, group attendance, medication and movement; receives incident reports and enforces disciplinary actions for infractions of the house guidelines.
  • Refers clients to appropriate Corps programs or other agencies based on clients needs and in accordance with their program plan.
  • Completes discharge plans of clients exiting the program; transfers file contents to non-active file; prepares card for follow-up mailing.
  • Plans, coordinates, and facilitates group and individual crisis intervention sessions; plans group activities and focus; provides group participants with information offered by other community services; availability of group sessions; performs community education speeches.
  • Encourages client responsibility for the upkeep of their living quarters; supports every effort clients make and praises them for helping themselves; serves as advocate for client with other agencies when necessary.
Administrative Responsibilities (30%)
  • Prepares and maintains case records and logs on all assigned clients; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Prepares and maintains statistical records on all services provided; compiles and prepares monthly statistical reports; prepares monthly financial reports for each of the donated budgets; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Prepares various correspondences and completes paperwork necessary for program operations.
  • Prepares and maintains office records, reports, calendars, databases, journals, books, logs, lists, etc. in an accurate, complete, and timely manner; updates, posts and indexes information and inputs data into the computer to maintain office records; researches office files to locate specific information found in documents, correspondence, lists, forms, etc. in order to prepare specific reports.
  • Prepares and proofs various routine reports; compiles and records information and statistics necessary to generate routine reports; proofs reports for errors and to ensure they are grammatically correct.
  • Answers telephone in a courteous and tactful manner; schedules appointments; greets and assists employees and people from outside The Salvation Army; provides accurate and complete information regarding the office operations and/or services; attempts to resolve complaints in a calm, courteous, and tactful manner.
  • Performs routine filing of a variety of correspondence, forms, cards, records, reports, and documents; the files are maintained in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Photocopies and/or shreds a variety of items including correspondence, forms, reports, and documents.
  • Performs various clerical and secretarial support work associated with special projects, seasonal events, and conference and committee meetings and prepares mail merges.
Liaison Responsibilities (20%)
  • Serves as liaison to other agencies including service providers for preventions, assessment, and treatment for chemical dependency; obtain/coordinate assistance on client’s behalf; builds and maintains professional working relationships with community agencies; participates in city, county, state and local meetings to educate the public on the Home Sweet Home Program, as well as networking with other social service agencies who can benefit clients; promotes a positive image of The Salvation Army and Home Sweet Home Program
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration associated with answering phones or speaking in person to clients requiring assistance.
  • Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
Working Conditions
  • Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
What We Are Looking For In You
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required, with an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred,
  • Two years experience providing assistance for those in a non-profit environment,
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certifications
  • Valid State Drivers License
