DESCRIPTION

he Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine and is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The department employs over 450 full time faculty, 322 residents, fellows and postdocs and 480 staff personnel. After the establishment of the Cardiovascular Institute, the division of Cardiovascular Medicine has grown to include 70+ faculty members. Our research space is co-located within several buildings on and off campus including the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center and on the La Jolla campus, the Salk institute for biological studies, the Biomedical Research Facility-2 and the San Diego VA Medical Center.

Serves as a program coordinator for the UC San Diego Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, and Lp(a) Center for Research and InnOvatioN (BEACON) Research Team with the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Collaborates with internal and external entities as part of project development and implementation, as well as program advancement. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in a collaborative multidisciplinary research team or providing administrative support in major research centers.
  • Strong knowledge of cardiovascular research.
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers. Strong ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong ability to understand and communicate effectively regarding scientific research programs gained through experience and training.
  • Experience interfacing with medical professional societies and patient advocacy groups
  • Experience in interfacing with physician scientists in clinical research
  • Knowledge of common organization- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Analytical / problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in analyzing, researching and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills.
  • Strong policy analysis techniques.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, business or related field.
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research.
