Job summary

Bechtel has been appointed to provide Construction Management Services for the BSVII project in San Jose, CA. This role leads interdisciplinary teams, oversees construction processes, and reviews plans and costs to ensure constructability and efficiency.

The role includes proposing studies and lessons learned to improve project delivery. Ideal candidates hold a PE license in California, have 13–19 years of relevant experience, and may also have PMP/CCM credentials.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor's or master's degree in an engineering-related field and 13–15 years of relevant experience or 17–19 years of relevant work experience.
• PE / Licensed Civil Engineer in California is required.
• PMI/ CCM credentials preferred.
• Experience as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on State Highway projects of significant scale.

Responsibilities

• Leads constructability effort for the BSVII program on behalf of the CMS team.
• Performs constructability reviews and assesses impacts across vertical and horizontal aspects of the program.
• Determines construction impacts on roads and transportation networks; inputs to CTMPs.
• Provides input on staging areas, temporary facilities, work hours, and shift patterns; advises on sequencing and staging.
• Assesses cumulative impact of multiple packages operating concurrently.
• Reviews construction processes, site plans, and engineering layouts.
• Attends and may lead construction meetings with client and contractors.
• Acts as Assistant RE in other functions when needed.
• Performs additional duties as required by the business.

Project Overview:

Bechtel has been appointed by The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to provide Construction Management Services for Phase II (BSVII) of The BART Silicon Valley Program. The program further extends the BART system from the Berryessa Station in north San Jose, through downtown San Jose, and continuing to Santa Clara University. This landmark project is a six mile, four-station extension, linking the Phase I terminus at the Berryessa/North San Jose BART station to the Santa Clara Station in the City of Santa Clara. BSVII is planned to include a 54-foot single-bore tunnel, three underground stations, one at-grade station and a maintenance facility.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage direct reports and lead interdisciplinary teams to establish construction methods and support activities. You will oversee the construction process, review plans, and specifications for costs and constructability, manage corporate processes and procedures, and lead proposal preparation. Your recommendations for studies, lessons learned, project assessments, and new methods will optimize completion of project construction activities. #LI-JL1

Major Responsibilities:

• Leads the constructability effort for theBSVII Programonbehalfof theCMS (Construction Management Services) team.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) in an engineering-related field (e.g. Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, etc.) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer in the State of Californiaisrequired.
• PMP or CCMispreferred.
• Experience as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on a State Highway System project of at least50M dollar projects or an Assistant Resident Engineer on 100M dollar projects.
• A minimum of 12 years of directly relevant experience, including Resident Engineer or related roles (or equivalent working knowledge/experience).
• At least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on Caltrans Highway improvement projects ofsimilar sizeand complexity.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and materials (e.g.Caltrans).
• Prior experience with construction/operations/trafficon a State Highway.
• A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
