Job summary

The Surdna Foundation, a New York City-based family foundation, seeks a Program Assistant for its Thriving Cultures Program. The role supports day-to-day administration for a three-person team and offers exposure to arts and philanthropy.

The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of administrative experience, strong Microsoft Office skills, and a commitment to social justice and equity. This position is based in New York City with a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, not required; arts/policy/immersive technology preferred.
  • Commitment to social justice and inclusive practices to affect structural change.
  • 1–2 years’ work experience, with previous office/administrative experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Previous nonprofit or foundation experience is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical thinking, narrative writing, speaking, research, scheduling, and editing skills.
  • A strong team-player, detail- and task-oriented, with a diplomatic, professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling and managing a high volume of meetings, calls, and travel for grantees, partners, and Board members.
  • Compiling expense reports through the Foundation’s expense management system (SAP Concur).
  • Actively tracking and managing grant requests, contracts, and reports.
  • Assembling and proofing written materials; providing support to grantee organizations.
  • Managing contractors and consultants; organizing meetings and events; taking notes during meetings.
  • Supporting cross-program collaboration and internal foundation meetings.
