Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a Program Assistant to support social services initiatives and supervise community center programs for children and adults. The role helps ensure emotional, physical, and spiritual well‑being through planned activities and supportive staff interaction.

You will assist in implementing community programming, build relationships with participants, and uphold safety and cleanliness standards within the center.

Qualifications

• Minimum education requirement is HS diploma or GED; equivalent training and experience may suffice.
• Experience leading social service programs preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Responsibilities

• Assist programming in Community Kitchen, showers, laundry and other services.
• Help build relationships with parents and children participating in programs.
• Enforce facility safety regulations and emergency procedures.
• Maintain order and enforce conduct rules in the Community Center.
• Open and close the community center as needed.
• Safeguard equipment and supplies such as tables, chairs, washer and dryer.
• Perform regular cleaning and facility maintenance during programming.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Program Assistant will assist the Director of Social Services or the Community Program Coordinator in implementing, conducting and supervising the Community Center programs for children and adults which will benefit their emotional, physical and spiritual health.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist community center programming in implementing, conducting and supervising programs which would include Community Kitchen, showers, laundry and other community services.
• Assist in building relationships with parents and children that participate in these programs.
• Enforce facility safety regulations and emergency procedures.
• Maintain order in the Community Center by enforcing rule relating to conduct and the use of equipment and facilities.
• May be responsible for opening and closing the community center.
• Help to safeguard all equipment and supplies including tables, chairs, washer, dryer, etc.
• Responsible for regular cleaning and maintaining the facility when used for programming.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• Minimum of High School diploma/GED desired, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Training and/or education experience in leading social service programs preferred
• Must be at least 18 years old
