Job summary

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is seeking a part-time Program Assistant to support the Afterschool (K-5) and Teen Programs at a Baltimore area community. You will help plan and run educational and recreational activities for children, youth and parents, in collaboration with the on-site Resident Engagement Specialist.

Availability is generally 2:00–8:00 pm two days a week and 2:00–6:00 pm two days (Mon–Thu); Fridays are admin hours during the school year, with full-time hours for six weeks

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with literacy or tutoring.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of students from varied economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated and mission driven.
  • Collaborative work style with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and preparing materials for educational and recreational activities for children, youth, and parents.
  • Provides a healthy snack for children in the Afterschool Program.
  • Assists students with homework and to complete educational activities.
  • Oversees after-school activities for elementary and teen students. - taking the lead when other site staff are sick or on vacation
  • Maintains good discipline by supporting a behavior management program.
  • Ensures the community room is set up before and cleaned after the program.
  • Collaborates willingly and cooperatively on tasks beyond regular duties.

About the Job

Program Assistants play a crucial role in supporting after-school enrichment programs, including the Afterschool (k-5) and Teen Programs (6-12). Collaborating with the Resident Engagement Specialist on site, the Program Assistant will assist in the implementation of educational and recreational activities for children, youth, and parents in a multifamily apartment community.

This part-time position requires availability from approximatel y 2:00-8:00 pm 2 days a week and 2;00-6:00 pm twice a week (Monday-Thursday;) and admin hours on Fridays during the APS academic year, on early release days program will start at 12pm. This position is full time for 6 weeks in the summer during summer camp.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
