Job summary

The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps is seeking a Program Aide to support the safe daily operation of the shelter. You will assist residents, serve meals, monitor safety, and help with housekeeping and light maintenance at the Tacoma location.

This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the JMFL Program Manager and involves shift work Friday through Tuesday from 11:00am to 7:30pm. A valid WA Food Worker Card is required and confidentiality is essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; experience with vulnerable populations preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to learn new information quickly; maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to pass TSA background check and Protecting the Mission requirements.
  • WA State Food Worker Card current.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance and support to residents while promoting a safe communal living environment.
  • Conduct resident intake and orientation when delegated or when a Case Manager is unavailable.
  • Provide supportive care to residents experiencing personal crisis.
  • Under Kitchen Manager guidance, prepare and serve healthy meals for residents.
  • Respond to emergencies and document incidents per policy guidelines.
  • Monitor inventory of program, cleaning, hygiene, and food supplies and notify supervisor.
  • Complete room turnovers and prepare rooms for new occupancy.
  • Maintain distribution of linens and resident supplies.
  • Document shift changeovers and required forms.

POSITION TITLE: Program Aide

STATUS: Full Time, Non-Exempt; 40 hours per week

REPORTS TO: JMFL Program Manager

SCHEDULE: Friday - Tuesday (11:00am - 7:30pm)

WORK LOCATION: 1521 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405

Scope Of Position

Under the supervision of the JMFL Program Manager, the Jarvie Memorial Family Lodge (JMFL) Program Aide is responsible for supporting the safe and effective daily operation of the shelter. Responsibilities include monitoring resident and facility safety; conducting property walkthroughs; preparing and serving meals; monitoring supply inventory; performing facility cleaning, room changeovers and minor maintenance tasks; completing reports, documentation, and shift changeovers; responding appropriately to emergencies; and providing respectful support to residents while ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures.

Essential Program Aide Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance and support to residents while promoting a safe communal living environment.
  • Conduct resident intake and orientation, when delegated or when a Case Manager is unavailable, in accordance with program procedures.
  • Provide supportive care to residents experiencing personal crisis.
  • Under the guidance of the JMFL Kitchen Manager, prepare and serve healthy meals for residents as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency situations that may arise, making independent decisions within policy guidelines as necessary. Provide crisis intervention and implement security procedures should a critical or threatening situation arise. Provide timely and appropriate notification to police, fire, emergency medical and supervisory authorities.
  • Conduct periodic property walkthroughs of all interior and exterior areas of the facility to identify and initiate appropriate action regarding hazards, inappropriate behavior, needed repairs, or other notable conditions.
  • Properly document incidents of non-compliance, as well as any safety concerns, using the required reporting procedures.
  • Monitor inventory levels of program, cleaning, hygiene, and food supplies, notifying the Program Manager when replenishment is needed.
  • Complete room turnovers between resident stays, including laundering bedding as needed, cleaning rooms, and preparing rooms for new occupancy.
  • Maintain and document the distribution of linens, hygiene supplies and other resident supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly facility by performing routine cleaning, replacing supplies, emptying trash, cleaning common areas, and completing other housekeeping and light maintenance tasks as assigned. All shifts are expected to participate in facility cleaning responsibilities.
  • Complete required documentation, forms, logs, and incident reports in the prescribed format.
  • Check work email regularly, review shift logs and changeover reports at the beginning of each shift, and complete shift changeover documentation before the end of each shift.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with other Program Aides, Case Managers, Corps Officers, and the JMFL Program Manager.
  • Treat all staff members and residents with respect and dignity. Demonstrate a professional, respectful, and service-oriented approach in all verbal and written interactions, including in-person conversations, phone calls, text messages, emails, recorded messages, and shift changeover documentation.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident information in accordance with Salvation Army policies and applicable privacy requirements.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new information and skills

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (emptying trash, moving boxes, etc.)
  • Ability to go up and down stairs with a load of laundry
  • Ability to sweep, mop, and vacuum floors on a daily basis
Work Schedule / Location:

This position is located at The Salvation Army Tacoma Corps in Tacoma, Washington. The schedule is based on program needs.

Health Insurance:

Low bi-weekly premiums ($39.23) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options

Parental Leave:

Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave:

12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.

Paid Vacation:

2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.

Paid Holidays:

13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year
