The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN is seeking a Program Aide for a seasonal summer role on-site. The position includes a $300 weekly stipend and requires living on-site from mid-June through July 2027.

Job description

The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN, is “doing the most good” by providing summer camp opportunities to hundreds of youth from Salvation Army programs across Minnesota and North Dakota. The camp offers youth a safe, fun environment to develop physically, socially, and spiritually while participating in various activities, including swimming, fishing, boating, archery, music, and arts and crafts.

The Program Aide assists with camp activities, monitors camper safety, maintains equipment, helps with meal service, and fosters positive relationships. This role provides support for camper behavior and participates in spiritual activities, contributing to a safe, engaging, and supportive camp environment. The position requires on-site residence throughout the temporary summer employment.

$300 stipend per week, 40 hours per week

Please note that this is a seasonal and temporary summer position from June 2027 to July 2027.

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)

• Support Camp Programs (20%): Actively participate in all assigned camp programs and activities, contributing to a positive and engaging experience for all campers.
• Safety and Observation (20%): Monitor campers and program areas for health and safety concerns, reporting any issues promptly to ensure a safe environment.
• Maintain Equipment (20%): Check and prepare program equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and readily available.
• Meal Assistance (15%): Assist kitchen staff with meal service, including setup, serving, and cleanup, to ensure efficient and timely meal operations.
• Build Positive Relationships (10%): Foster a positive rapport with campers and colleagues, promoting a supportive and inclusive camp atmosphere.
• Camper Behavior Support (10%): Encourage campers’ compliance with rules and expectations.
• Participate in Spiritual Activities (5%): Attend and actively engage in all designated spiritual activities and devotions as part of the camp program.

Education and Experience

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Experience working with children preferred.
• Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be willing to participate in religious activities.
• Must pass the vetting process (e.g., background checks, reference checks) per policy.
• Flexible interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Works with integrity, valuing honesty and diligence.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to attend staff orientation week.
• Room and Board provided in addition to a biweekly stipend. Required to live on-site at Northwoods camp during the summer.
• Position is seasonal, approximately mid-June through July, including nights and weekends.
• Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, and reaching.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds occasionally.Must be able to fully participate in activities and events (outdoors and indoors).
• Camp environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
• Must be able to communicate clearly with colleagues and participants.
