The Division of Pre-College and Undergraduate Programs isresponsible for developing and offering non-credit and creditcourses and programs for over 6,000 high school students, as wellas Brown University undergraduate and Visiting Students from otherinstitutions. Students participate in programs on BrownUniversity's Providence campus, as well as online and in otherlocations domestically and internationally. Within the Division,there are teams of staff who are responsible for marketing,admissions, enrollment, academic content, instructional delivery,student life, finance, human resources, payroll, and the variouspolicies and protocols associated with this work. Staff workclosely with colleagues from across the University to ensuresuccess, including the Registrar's Office, the Office ofInformation Technology, and Facilities Management.
The Brown Collegiate Scholars Program (BCSP) is a four-year,year-round college access program for students living and learningin Providence. The Program seeks to empower academically motivatedpublic school students who live and learn in Providence to exploretheir interests and strengthen their academic preparation in orderto identify, select, afford and attend colleges that align withtheir aspirations. As a reflection of the University's approach tostudent-centered learning, focus will be on developing studentagency as a means for self-reflection, exploration, andself-determination. Particular attention will be focused on servingstudents who are the first in their families to go to collegeand/or who have limited financial resources.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of the Brown CollegiateScholars Program, the Program Advisor is responsible for coachingincoming Providence Public School District (PPSD) high schoolstudents through their high school career and guiding students ontheir college application process, coordinating opportunities forstudents to explore colleges, securing advantageous financial aidpackages and supporting their transition to college. This work willhappen through one-on-one advising meetings and group workshops forstudents and families in coordination with other BCSP staff bothvirtually and in-person. A team of Program Advisors will supportstudents in the Program, each engaging with a single cohort ofstudents for four years. As a member of the BCSP team, the ProgramAdvisor will receive training and ongoing support from BCSP andwill participate in regular team meetings. This position will alsofacilitate college visits to a select group of colleges anduniversities in New England. Program Advisors will also be ableto research and advocate for internal or external resources beyondthose associated with BCSP.
