Job Overview

Position: IPST Director, University of Maryland, College Park. IPST Director will report to the Dean of the College and lead interdisciplinary research in Non-equilibrium Systems, Emergent Materials, Active Matter, Networks Science, Dynamical Systems, Quantitative Life Sciences, Energetic Particle Astrophysics & Space Technology, and Applied Mathematics & Scientific Computation. The Director will oversee faculty, student development, and institutional strategy for the Institute’s programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the IPST unit, developing strategic direction and vision.
• Provide vision and administrative leadership for faculty and student development.
• Maintain national and international reputation for outstanding research and scholarship.
• Demonstrate commitment to faculty and student development, and to high‑quality science in current research areas or adjacent fields.
• Travel within campus for meetings, events, and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant field.
• Tenured full professor at the University of Maryland, College Park, or tenured associate professor expected to achieve full professor rank by July12026.
• Established national/international reputation for outstanding research, scholarship, or artistic creativity.
• Distinguished record of teaching and professional service.
• Strong commitment to faculty and student development.
• Evidence of leadership experience and vision for the Institute.

Physical Demands

Office‑based position, requiring travel among university buildings. Work hours are typically daytime; occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for college events.
