Job summary

Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA seeks a Professional-in-Residence in the Chemical Engineering program for a 10-month, non-tenure track appointment starting September 1, 2026. The position is renewable annually and requires experience in chemical plants or related industrial operations.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in chemical plants, refineries, or related industrial operations are strongly preferred.
  • 18 semester credit hours of graduate study in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate laboratories is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and set up undergraduate Chemical Laboratory Safety class and Chemical Engineering Junior and Senior Laboratories.
  • Provide safety training for students in teaching laboratories and create a safe environment.
  • Initiate requisitions for supplies.
  • Arrange for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Train teaching assistants when required.
  • Participate in biweekly faculty meetings during the school year.
  • Serve as the Chair of the Safety Committee for the College of Engineering and Science which oversees annual hazardous chemical inventory.
  • Coordinate annual property inventory for the Chemical Engineering program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Appointments are for one yearand are renewed annuallyupon satisfactory performance.Applicants must have experience working in a chemical plant, refinery, or otherindustrialoperation within the Chemical Engineering field. Five years of experience or moreand18 semester credit hours of graduatestudyin Chemical Engineeringor a related disciplinearestrongly preferred.

The successful candidate will manageatwo-story, 3,400-square foot teaching lab that houses process control systems, distillation columns, heat exchangers, fluid flow and pumping equipment, evaporation, absorption, and drying systems, reactors, and lab-scale paper production line.ThisYouTube video features the teaching lab and the PIR:

Traditionally, the PIR teaches one class per 11-week academic quarter for three quarters per year. These classes are JuniorLaboratory, Senior Laboratory, and Process Safety in the ChemicalIndustry.
