Basic Responsibilities

Successfully provide technical, engineering, and project management services related to the design, maintenance, operations, improvements of and additions to the District’s facilities and systems in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost-effective manner to enable the District to realize its goals and objectives. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in a broad area of assignments. Plans, organizes, assigns, and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Performs as project leader on medium to large and/or complex projects and assignments. Trains, mentors, reviews, approves, and may seal work of unlicensed engineers. May represent the District in conferences, technical and/or business and trade groups.

This position is focused on managing our Wildfire Mitigation Program with responsibility for leading and continuously advancing the District’s wildfire mitigation program that supports safe, reliable, and resilient electric utility operations. This role provides strategic leadership, governance, and accountability for all wildfire mitigation activities, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders. As the District’s primary subject matter expert and program owner, the Wildfire Program Engineer/Manager develops and maintains wildfire mitigation plans, oversees risk assessments, integrates operational strategies such as Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) protocols, and establishes performance metrics that demonstrate measurable risk reduction and program effectiveness. The position serves as the central coordinator for wildfire program and risk management, ensuring mitigation strategies are data-driven, defensible, and aligned with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and enterprise risk management principles. Responsibilities include leading cross-functional planning efforts, evaluating wildfire risk and system vulnerabilities, developing infrastructure and operational improvements, implementing situational awareness and decision-support technologies, coordinating with external agencies and industry partners, and driving continuous program improvement through lessons learned and performance monitoring. Through proactive leadership and strategic oversight, the Wildfire Program Engineer/Manager strengthens system reliability, reduces ignition risk, enhances community safety, and helps ensure the District remains prepared for evolving wildfire threats and regulatory expectations.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field, AND
  • Six (6) years of related engineering experience;

OR

  • Ten (10) years of directly related engineering experience.
Required Licenses(s) and/or Certifications(s)
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with a good driving record
  • Washington State Professional Engineering (PE) License
