Job summary

Howmet Aerospace is seeking a Refractory Team Member for the Dover, New Jersey facility on the Afternoon Shift (2pm–10:30pm). You will work with the Howmet Alloy team to build and repair refractory linings for melt equipment and support vacuum and air melt processes.

The role requires performing all phases of building, bricking, lining, ramming and repairing refractory linings, with training on 1st shift and a starting hourly rate of $25.66, rising to $28.31 after 12 months and additional shift

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not offered.
  • Candidates residing within 50 miles of Dover, NJ will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Set, operate, and monitor preheat torches to insure proper operation.
  • Maintain inventory of tapping blocks, furnaces, and materials.
  • Assemble tapping blocks with prescribed filter configuration per melt schedule.
  • Coordinate inventories with Melt Team and Production Planning.
  • Assist Melt Team on furnace changes and/or spout changes.
  • Knock out old refractory and install new refractory in vacuum coils.
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly.

Howmet Aerospace is currently looking for a Refractory Team Member to join our Howmet Alloy located in Dover, New Jersey.

The work hours for this Afternoon Shift position are Monday - Friday 2p - 10:30p.

Training on 1st shift (6a - 2:30p)

New Hire Starting Hourly Rate: $25.66; After 12 months: $28.31

Position will receive an hourly "shift premium" while assigned to an off-shift.

Job Summary

The refractory team member is responsible for performing all phases of building, bricking, lining, ramming and repairing of all melt equipment (vacuum and air) containing refractory linings and/or equipment.

Environmental Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Expected to assist in the implementation of Howmet Aerospace’s EHS value and policy statement and its accompanying principles
  • Comply with all department, facility, Corporate and Regulatory EH&S regulations
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Report all job-related illness and injuries (Per employee handbook)
  • Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner
  • Attend all EH&S training
Job Responsibilities
  • Set, operate, and monitor preheat torches to insure proper operation

  • Assemble tapping blocks with prescribed filter configuration in accordance with the melt schedule
  • Work with the Melt Team and Production Planning to coordinate inventories and bricking requirements
  • May be required to assist the Melt Team on furnace changes and or spout changes
  • Knock out old refractory, and install new refractory in Vacuum coils
  • Knock out old refractory, and install new refractory in AOD vessels
  • Required to keep work area in a clean orderly condition
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Candidates residing within a 50‑mile radius of Dover NJ will only be considered
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in English
  • Able to work flexible hours including night and weekends with little advanced notice
Physical Demands / Equipment Used
  • Equipment used includes refractory saws, cranes, curing torch, computers, hand and pneumatic tools and forklifts
  • Large amounts of time spent in small spaces while performing job duties
Mental Requirements

Must be able to read and understand digital and analog scales and gauges and other measuring devices.
