Job description
Overview

Production Underwriter – Remote in Minnesota/Wisconsin/Chicago area. This role is with Selective Insurance and involves acting as a liaison between the company and agents, managing relationships with agents, the regional underwriting team, and corporate departments. The position is primarily inside-office based with primary contact via phone and email, with occasional travel to meet key agency partners.

Responsibilities
  • Write new profitable business with agents and support continuity when vacancies occur; assist busy AMS with overflow.
  • Market and underwrite small business and large accounts according to underwriting criteria and in alignment with company standards and philosophy.
  • Make consistent underwriting decisions, adhere to pricing philosophies, and promote ease of doing business with Selective; provide excellent communication and service via digital technology.
  • Monitor agency results, pursue new business opportunities, growth, profitability, and compliance with initiatives and policies; lead problem-solving and opportunity exploitation efforts.
  • Develop professional working relationships with agents, regional underwriting, claim teams, and corporate departments.
  • Maintain open two-way communication between agents and the company; encourage usage of Selective systems (CLAS, PLUS, e-Select).
  • Stay informed on industry developments and changes in other carrier philosophies that could affect Selective.
  • Assist with regional needs such as book roll opportunities or coverage on small business or large accounts underwriting teams.
  • Occasional automobile travel to assigned agents (approximately 5% of time).

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and ability to drive.

Pay Range
