Job summary

AbbVie in Tempe, AZ seeks a Production Technician Lead I to support a fast-paced pharmaceutical finishing operation. You will lead equipment setup and troubleshooting, mentor peers, and collaborate with maintenance to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency.

This hands-on role emphasizes 6S, OEE, and cross-functional teamwork. The position requires strong electromechanical skills, knowledge of pneumatics, HMI/vision systems, and proficiency with SAP/MAXIMO.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associates preferred.
  • Strong focus on quality and site policies; cGMP knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to communicate issues to operations, engineering and mechanical teams.
  • Advanced understanding of pneumatics, electronics, mechanical systems, motors, drives, sensors, and related controls.
  • Experience with systems like POMs, SAP and MAXIMO is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety procedures and foster a proactive safety culture.
  • Setup and troubleshoot automated packaging equipment across three value streams within standard changeover times.
  • Monitor and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) across the floor.
  • Provide high-level troubleshooting and repair of components (gears, belts, motors, sensors, valves).
  • Identify root causes and communicate issues to cross-functional groups for sustained performance.
  • Assist peers with troubleshooting and equipment setups.
  • Support on-the-job training and share learning across the team.
  • Coordinate with production scheduling to understand line priorities with limited supervision.
  • Lead 6S improvements of parts and tooling on the floor.
  • Process CMMS work orders for repairs and improvements; cover maintenance when needed.

Job Description

The Production Technician Lead I will work in a high performing and fast-paced pharmaceutical finishing operation in order to meet our production requirements while maintaining the utmost focus on safety and quality. He or she will support equipment set ups, and equipment troubleshooting across all three value streams. He or she will be expected to contribute to and build a team environment by leading and working with his or her peers daily. Goals and objectives are to assist peers with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and equipment set ups. This individual will also have the skills and knowledge to cross over and assist the maintenance team with troubleshooting and performing maintenance related tasks. He or she will be responsible for creating a quality-focused environment by motivating/influencing others and always driving for excellence within his or her team.

Night shift options:

2nd Shift - Nights (Sun - Tues every other Wed)

4th Shift - Nights (Thurs - Sat every other Wed)

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Environmental, Health, and Safety procedures while facilitating a proactive safety culture. Use Abbvie approved tools for the job to minimize the introduction of extraneous matter into the packaging process.
  • Effectively setup and troubleshoot automated equipment in primary and secondary packaging area within 3 value streams within standardized changeover target times. Performs vision system tasks at the mechanic level in 3 value streams. Comprehends and resolves serialization system faults. Responsible for proper handling and disposition of commodities used during setup and troubleshooting to minimize MUV.
  • Monitor and maintain above target overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) performance across the production floor by making necessary adjustments when requested.
  • Provide high level troubleshooting and repair down to faulty components (i.e. drive gears, drive belts, motors, electronic sensors, solenoid valves, etc.) across all packaging equipment.
  • Respond to requests, evaluate problems, determine root cause and communicate issues to cross-functional groups in order to help resolve reoccurring issues and sustain overall performance on all production lines.
  • Provides assistance to peers with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and equipment setups.
  • Assists with on-the-job training of peers or others on the production floor. Communicates issues and shares learning experiences through maintenance communications.
  • Works closely with the production schedule and understands line priorities while working with minimal/limited supervision.
  • Initiate, execute and lead the implementation of continuous 6S of parts and tooling across the production floor.
  • Initiate and complete POM’s exceptions and SAP transactions such as bulk returns and over/under commodity consumption. Executes work orders in the CMMS (Maximo) for repairs/improvements to be planned and scheduled. Skillset to provide maintenance team coverage, when necessary.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma with equivalent experience. Technical experience and troubleshooting aptitude preferred. Technical certificate or Associates degree preferred. Must meet a Production Technician III or have equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated focus and understanding of the importance of maintaining the highest level of quality and ensuring compliance to site level policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate issues to appropriate operations, engineering and mechanical team required.
  • Advanced understanding of pneumatics, electronics, mechanical, motors, variable frequency drives, encoders, servo motors, and different sensors required. Advanced understanding of HMI controls, vision inspection systems, and product serialization systems in order to troubleshoot and resolve inefficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new programs and applications required.
  • Understanding and experience with systems such as POMs, SAP, and MAXIMO preferred.
  • 4-5+ years of knowledge of related cGMP requirements and procedures preferred.
  • Requires standing up to 8-12hs per day and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Work 40 to 48 hours per week and may work as many as 60 hours depending on manufacturing demands.
