Job summary

GrafTech International, through its Seadrift Coke operation, is seeking a Production Technician to contribute to safe, high-quality needle coke production in a challenging plant environment. You will operate units, follow LOTO and permitting, maintain records, and support continuous improvement while working 12-hour shifts in varied weather.

  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Must pass a standardized mechanical aptitude test.
  • Must pass physical.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Operates the unit they are trained in for quality and production.
  • Perform LOTO and permitting requirements.
  • Emergency Response Team participation and rope rescue role (volunteer).
  • Train other technicians as required.
  • Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings (temperatures, pressures, etc).
  • Set up and operate production equipment per cGMP and SOPs.
  • Monitor and adjust production with raw materials, quality control, costs, and other criteria.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot process upsets and mechanical failures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work area.
  • Perform audits and inspections of emergency and process equipment.

Production Technician
Primary Job Responsibility:

Production technician is responsible for performing tasks in a safe and compliant manner to produce high quality needle coke and the various duties to support the plant's production goals and overall business plans.

Description of Job Duties:
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Operates the unit they are trained in for quality and production.
  • Perform LOTO and permitting requirements.
  • Required Emergency Response Team participation, and voluntary Rope Rescue role.
  • Responsible for being trained in various units and training other technicians as required.
  • Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows.
  • Set up and operate production equipment in accordance with current good manufacturing practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor and adjust production process with raw materials, quality control, costs, and other criteria for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot process upsets and mechanical failures.
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the work area for performing one's work in a diligent and efficient manner with regard for one's own personal safety and the safety of others, plant property, and the care of the product.
  • Perform audits and inspections of emergency and process equipment.
Required Knowledge / Skills / Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Must pass a standardized mechanical aptitude test.
  • Must pass physical.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
Preferred Skills:
  • Process Technology Certification or 2 years' experience in an industrial facility.
  • Strength in Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions:

12-hour rotating shift between days and nights. Position may work 75-100% outside in inclement weather.

Physical Demands of Position:

This position requires a physically active person that is able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the following activities, carrying, pulling, pushing, and climbing, etc. This role requires the person to be able to perform under the physical and mental stress of Emergency Response and perform firefighting and/or rescue operations. This role also requires clear and audible speech as required for effective communication, ability to hear, and possess depth perception.
