Job summary

Wabtec Corporation is hiring a Prep Technician to coat and finish metal surfaces for its manufacturing lines in Duncan, OK. The role involves masking, coating, inspecting finishes, and maintaining paint equipment within an indoor industrial environment.

You will operate a Graco spray system, perform quality checks for coating uniformity, and collaborate with team members to meet production goals and safety standards. A High School diploma or GED and 1+ year powder coat experience are required.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 1+ years of Powder Coat experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Ability to apply coating principles and identify issues (fisheye, adhesion, rough coatings).
  • Ability to set, read, and use measuring instruments (viscosity testers, thickness gauges).
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, and sketches.
  • Ability to interpret specifications for color and coating thickness.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment for coating operations.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Team collaboration and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Prep, mask, coat, and finish metal surfaces.
  • Operate Graco wet paint system to apply finishes.
  • Inspect painted units for runs, debris, fisheye, and uncoated areas.
  • Inspect/replace paint gun components for optimal performance.
  • Perform daily checks and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist in 5S, cleaning procedures, and shop upkeep.
  • Cleansing booth, conveyors, spray heads, and hoses as needed.
  • Assist others in solving quality and production issues.

You will be responsible for preparing, and coating manufactured parts for production, as well as to have the ability to use tools and equipment that are needed to perform coating operations in an industrial setting.   • Our job titles may span more than one career level. The hourly range for this role is between $19.00+ an hour.

What do we want to know about you?
  • First Shift 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 1+ years of Powder Coat experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Must possess the knowledge, skill and ability to apply coating principles and practices; locate, identify and correct problems such as fisheye, poor adhesion or rough coatings.
  • Must have the knowledge and skill to set, use and read measuring instruments such as viscosity testers and thickness gages.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches.
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to interpret various specifications and standards to determine color, coating thickness, applicable mixing instructions and any other factors that affect the finished product.
  • Must possess the ability to use tools and equipment that are needed to perform coating operations in an industrial setting.
  • Must have good listening and communication skills.
  • Able to work well with others to be a good team player.
What will your typical day look like?
  • Prep Technician
  • Prepares (masks & clean), coats, and finishes metal and/or other surfaces.
  • Operates wet paint Graco system to spray industrial paint finishes on metal and other types of surfaces.
  • Inspects painted units for runs, debris, fisheye, and uncoated areas. Coated parts must be uniform in mil thickness, hardness, gloss level, and conform to specified color.
  • Inspects and replaces components on paint guns to ensure they are at optimum performance.
  • Performing daily checks and maintenance.
  • Assist in daily 5s and cleaning procedures.
  • Cleans paint from ceiling and walls of booth, conveyor hooks or grid, and from spray heads, and hoses.
  • Weekly replace air filters inside the paint booth.
  • Monthly respray of inside of paint booth with peel away coating.
  • Touches up defective areas of coated items.
  • Assists other operators as needed.
  • Assists others in obtaining solutions to quality and production issues.
  • Other duties as may be required or assigned.

Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills, and interact with other employees, customers and vendors. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
