Job description

About us

We’re a small boutique studio specializing in custom costume design and construction. Most of our pieces are one of a kind, and we also produce small runs of matching costumes for group performances.

About the role

We’re looking for a skilled tailor to join our production team. You’ll construct costumes from patterns and specifications developed by our pre-production department, bringing each design to life with quality and care. Alterations and repairs are a smaller part of the role.

What you’ll do
  • Construct one-of-a-kind costumes and small production runs to pattern and specification
  • Work with a wide range of fabrics, trims, and embellishments
  • Handle alterations and repairs as needed
  • Press and finish garments
  • Inspect completed work for quality, consistency across matching pieces, and on-time delivery
What you bring
  • 1–3 years of experience in garment construction, costume production, or tailoring
  • Proficiency on industrial straight stitch, zigzag, overlock, and coverstitch machines
  • Confidence working independently or with moderate supervision
  • Strong skills across multiple areas of the craft, with a desire to keep growing
  • A sharp eye for detail and a commitment to quality
Nice to have
  • Pattern-making knowledge for minor adjustments on the production floor
  • Experience with costume, dancewear, or performance garments
How we work together
  • Your projects, your ownership. You’ll receive assignments from our pre-production team one project at a time, with all the instructions you need to get started. From there, the project is yours to see through.
  • Collaboration when it counts. You’ll mostly work on your own projects, but you’ll sometimes team up with others on larger jobs and coordinate shared equipment. Our pre-production team has an open door, so questions and concerns are always welcome.
  • A team, not a competition. We succeed together. We schedule projects carefully to allow comfortable turnaround times, and in return we count on everyone to finish their work on time so nothing backs up. Deadlines are made or missed as a team.
The work environment
  • The space. You’ll work in a semi-industrial production studio with industrial sewing machines, cutting tables, steam irons, and all the tools of the trade.
  • Safety. Sharp tools, hot irons, and fast, powerful machines abound in the workshop, awareness of our surroundings and looking out for one another is a team effort.
  • Physical demands. The role involves sitting, standing, bending, stooping and lifting.
  • What to wear. Casual attire and closed-toe rubber sole shoes.
About Our Organization:

We design, pattern, and build custom-fit, bespoke costumes on commission, from one-of-a-kind pieces to small runs for group performances. Our pre-production team uses modern technology for precision and efficiency, while our production studio is rooted in artisan craftsmanship. Wherever possible, we source sustainable, renewable, and eco-friendly materials.

Mutual respect and inclusion are at the heart of how we work. We’re committed to opening doors for people from communities that have traditionally faced barriers to stable, skilled employment, and we strongly encourage applicants from all backgrounds. Ethical Labor practices govern our operations. Our artisans are whole people, with lives beyond the production floor. We work a fixed schedule of 6-hour days and 30-hour weeks, giving our team reliable time to care for loved ones, take that extra class, or simply indulge in a favorite hobby.
