Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversees the daily operations of the Sign Structures, Toe Crack Repair, Python/SAW, and Kitting/Inventory departments to ensure the safe, efficient, and quality production of products in accordance with production schedules, material availability, and customer specifications. Coordinates production activities with the Plant Master Scheduler, Production Control, Inventory Control, Engineering, Project Management, and other departments to support on-time delivery and operational excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises personnel, including recommendations for hiring, discipline, performance evaluation, employee development, training, work allocation, and problem resolution for assigned departments.
  2. Directly supervises the Sign Structures Working Lead, Inventory Control Specialist, Toe Crack Repair Welders, and Python/SAW Operators.
  3. Coordinates daily work assignments with the Plant Superintendent, Plant Master Scheduler, Production Control personnel, and Project Managers to ensure products are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.
  4. Oversees production activities for Sign Structures, Toe Crack Repair, Python/SAW, and Kitting operations by organizing workflow, establishing production priorities, and balancing labor resources.
  5. Partners with the Inventory Control Specialist to ensure material availability, inventory accuracy, kitting readiness, and efficient material flow to support production schedules.
  6. Monitors shop productivity, quality, labor utilization, and production output to ensure operational goals and customer commitments are achieved.
  7. Coordinates with Engineering, Purchasing, Production Control, Shipping, and other Company departments regarding work orders, material requirements, production status, and transfer of materials or finished goods.
  8. Writes maintenance work orders for the repair and upkeep of production equipment, tooling, and shop resources.
  9. Maintains production documentation and communication forms including travelers, work orders, inventory records, material identification, production reports, and other operational documentation as required.
  10. Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment, promotes continuous improvement initiatives, and supports Lean Manufacturing and 5S practices where applicable.
  11. Promotes a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with Company policies, quality standards, OSHA requirements, and all established safety procedures.
  12. Coaches employees in safe work practices, quality expectations, productivity standards, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED; at least three (3) years of experience directly related to manufacturing supervision, structural steel fabrication, welding operations, or production leadership.
  • Commensurate work experience deemed appropriate and acceptable by the hiring manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  1. Ability to read and write bilingual Spanish is a plus.
  2. Experience supervising structural steel fabrication, welding, or heavy manufacturing operations.
  3. Experience with Python/SAW equipment, sign structure fabrication, or similar automated fabrication processes preferred.
  4. Working knowledge of inventory control, material flow, and production scheduling.
  5. Ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards.
  6. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  7. Ability to supervise, coach, and develop employees while organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  8. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  9. Ability to read, interpret, and explain fabrication drawings and blueprints.
  10. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate manufacturing operations across multiple production areas.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  12. Strong employee development and performance management skills.
  13. Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team environment.
  14. Knowledge of manufacturing workflow, organizational structure, and production processes.
  15. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer-based production reporting systems.
  16. Ability to prepare reports and analyze production performance metrics.
  17. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history review.
  • Successful completion of any required pre-employment screenings.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work involves moderate to heavy exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  • Moderate to heavy physical activity. Requires handling objects weighing up to 60 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  • Work environment involves exposure to hazards and physical risks requiring strict adherence to all safety precautions and the proper use of required personal protective equipment.
