Job description

Job Overview

This is a night shift position. The Production Supervisor leads all activities of the assigned team, including safety, quality, service, value, and teamwork. The supervisor is responsible for ensuring all critical business aspects related to the assigned team while clearly communicating information to plant leadership, ensuring production of a quality product in accordance with mandated regulations, current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) and established company procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required. College degree in industrial technology, business, management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum three years of experience in a manufacturing environment and previous supervisory or leadership experience required. Experience in a food processing environment strongly preferred.
Essential Job Duties
  • Production Process: Manage all aspects of assigned work area including projects, coordinating production workflow, troubleshooting production processes, costs, scheduling, shipping, receiving, and quality.
  • Ensure on‑time delivery of product within budget and meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Document and understand required data to control production processes and assist in the development and updating of standard operating procedures.
  • Comply with company food safety and quality policies, ensuring fundamental practices are maintained and supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvements of food safety programs.
  • Perform and oversee audits and inspections of the workplace.
  • Monitor production processes, anticipate production concerns, and make effective decisions while striving for continuity of the production process.
  • Investigate incidents, including safety, quality, or food safety.
  • Manage required documentation to meet Essentia internal and external regulations.
  • Drive root‑cause problem solving to address vendor, supplier, and customer issues concerning quality and delivery.
  • Operate company vehicle, forklifts, and pallet jacks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Training and Development
  • Conduct and provide quality, safety, and production training for production personnel.
  • Coach and develop team members through the performance review process.
  • Conduct and document training of employees, including safety and food safety standards.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement to improve cost, quality, and safety standards for the assigned area.
  • Encourage team member development and engagement; create an environment for team members to grow.
Management Lead
  • Lead through the Essentia Values of Teamwork, Respect, Agility, Creativity, and Knowledge, and model the associated behaviors.
  • Manage assigned team members in performance of their duties; establish and monitor individual and team goals aligned with the organization’s strategies.
  • Ensure department serves its internal and external customers and meets defined expectations.
  • Responsible for corrective actions of production personnel according to company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean production area for safe working conditions.
  • Provide input to the Production Manager for hiring production personnel.
  • Manage team member performance, including annual evaluations and ongoing conversations.
  • Attend supervisory and safety meetings at designated times.
  • Comply with and ensure team member compliance with respectful workplace policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Collaborate with all functional areas in the plan for safety and operational efficiency.
Lead Safety
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Report all safety incidents or injuries immediately.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits, identifying and addressing potential hazards to minimize workplace risks.
  • Lead safety training programs and initiatives to promote employee awareness and adherence to safety standards.
  • Investigate and report safety incidents, implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences and improve safety performance.
Job Requirements
  • Ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in equipment and perform repairs.
  • Ability to operate and train personnel on equipment and machinery used in product processing.
  • Maintain confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities.
  • Monitor production processes, anticipate concerns, and make effective decisions.
  • Work in a team environment and implement continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintain good employee work ethic and a positive attitude among employees.
  • Perform basic and complex mathematical calculations.
  • Work daily and overtime as necessary; remain calm and professional during peak periods.
  • Analyze, forecast, and plan production objectives.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Understand OSHA standards and safe work practices.
  • Effectively communicate orally and in writing with Essentia Proteins personnel, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and other contacts.
  • Adhere to USDA, OSHA, and other regulatory record‑keeping requirements.
  • Proficiency with the computer and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of dryer operation and evaporation processes.
  • Operate forklifts and non‑motorized pallet jacks as needed.
  • Assist in other work‑related areas as requested.
Basic Physical Requirements

Shifts of 8‑ to 12‑hour night shifts requiring frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs, operating forklifts, and occasional operating a vehicle. Ability to perform repetitive hand movements and maintain good vision and hearing.

Basic Mental Requirements

Ability to analyze production processes, develop manufacturing techniques, solve problems, and communicate effectively with plant personnel.

Working Conditions and Exposures

Work environment includes exposure to chemicals, wide temperature ranges, high noise levels, tile and concrete floors, machinery and equipment, extended work hours, and dust. Employees must be mobile throughout required work areas.
