Job summary

Amcor Rigid Packaging is seeking a Production Supervisor for the 2nd shift in Blythewood, SC. You will oversee all plant production activities, ensure safety and quality, and drive continuous improvement while meeting schedules and controlling costs.

The role requires 3+ years in supervision, preferably in plastics, with strong communication and training skills. A Green Belt and a two-year college degree are preferred. Amcor offers a comprehensive benefits package and a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years in a supervisory role, preferably plastic manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Directs manufacturing and material handling on the shift.

  • Trains and supervises hourly staff; enforces rules; oversees hiring decisions.
  • Manages shift schedule to prevent idle time and optimize resources.
  • Maintains quality standards to meet specs and drives continuous improvement in quality.
  • Leads 5S on the production floor and ensures safe working conditions.
  • Reports end-of-shift metrics: production, runtime/downtime, maintenance, quality deviations, materials, safety checks, attendance, and labor costs.
  • Communicates changes to production personnel and ensures understanding and implementation.

Job description

Role Overview

The primary purpose of the production supervisor is to supervise all plant production activities on 2nd shift (6:15pm-7am). Responsible for meeting production schedules and standards, producing product in accordance with applicable customer requirements, and maintaining optimum production at the least possible cost while adhering to all Amcor Rigid Packaging USA Inc. safety requirements. Supervises shift maintenance personnel and regular maintenance staff in the absence of the Plant Maintenance Manager.

Your Role in Unpacking Possibilities
  • Directs the manufacturing and material handling activities on a given shift.
  • Ensures employees are performing tasks in accordance with safety policies.
  • Trains and supervises hourly employees in these activities; administers plant rules and procedures; recommends employees and candidates for hire, promotion, demotion, transfer, disciplinary action and/or termination.
  • Effectively manages the work schedule within the department to prevent idle time and provides for the optimal use of personnel, machinery, and material. This includes the proper use of any established work standards and incentive plans.
  • Maintains standards of quality to meet customer and internal specifications. Strives for continuous improvement in quality performance through proper training, good communication, effective leadership/supervision, and follow-up with all members of the shift.
  • Directs and coordinates activities concerned with continuous improvement of all company activities, driving the warehouse toward efficient operations.
  • Implements and maintains "5S" methodology on the production floor.
  • Maintains safe working conditions throughout the plant by taking corrective action on unsafe conditions or acts. May serve as a member of the Plant Safety Committee. Implements all approved safety recommendations, and ensures compliance with established safety standards, including lockout/tagout, hearing conservation, and other programs required by law and/or management.
  • Conducts pre-shift safety meetings with shift.
  • Effectively handles employee complaints, suggestions, questions, and conflicts in accordance with the guidelines established in the Employee Handbook and in accordance with company policies/procedures. Maintains employee morale and discipline through fairness and impartiality.
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving employee hours worked using the Kronos timekeeping system
  • Responsible for reporting the following information at the end of each shift:
  • Production achieved by department / machine / product
  • Runtime / downtime by department / machine
  • Maintenance, installation and/or test work performed
  • Deviations from acceptable quality standards and product disposition
  • Material receipts and shipments
  • Material problems, outages, and action taken
  • Daily safety check list
  • Personnel problems, absenteeism, time worked
  • Assists in the review of labor and manufacturing costs as they relate to production. Analyzes, pursues, and recommends methods for reducing these costs.
  • Coordinates the implementation of any approved material or method changes. Responsible for communicating these changes to production personnel and follows-up to insure understanding and proper implementation.
  • Keeps current on technical developments and changes to appraise or make recommendations to management and supervisors and to instruct and train employees.
  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Production Manager, Operations Manager, and/or Plant Manager.

  • Minimum of two years of college, prefer bachelor's degree in business management or acceptable combination of experience and education.
  • Green Belt certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a supervisory position, preferably in plastics manufacturing.
  • Must be able to communicate quickly and effectively with all members of the shift as well with management, customers and vendors.
  • Must be capable of managing and training all members of the shift on an on-going basis.
  • Serve as a change agent by driving and influencing operational change through continuous improvement and team engagement.
