Second or Third Shift J&O Plastics Inc. Rittman, Ohio

SHIFT

Second [3:00 PM – 11:00 PM] or Third [11:00 PM – 7:00 AM]

TYPE
COMPENSATION

$75,000 - $85,000 per year

J&O Plastics is seeking a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead an assigned second- or third-shift injection molding production team.

You are responsible for the people, decisions, execution, and output of your shift. Your job is to execute directives, lead your crew, and exercise sound judgment as the senior leader in the building. This role carries more autonomy than most supervisory roles, and we want someone who sees this as an opportunity.

The successful candidate is a visible, consistent floor leader who keeps control of the operation, makes timely decisions, coaches employees, and delivers results without compromising safety or quality. Supervisors who execute consistently and develop their teams are our pipeline for senior production leadership.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Shift Execution
  • Direct injection molding production across 45 presses ranging from the assigned shift.
  • Execute the established production schedule and respond to changing priorities.
  • Assign employees based on production needs, qualifications, staffing, and machine requirements.
  • Monitor output, machine status, cycle performance, labor utilization, downtime, scrap, and quality in real time.
  • Execute mold changes and changeovers to established setup standards, minimizing downtime between runs.
  • Identify and resolve schedule risks, staffing shortages, equipment problems, and material concerns early.
  • Coordinate available, technical and support resources to restore safe, stable production.
  • Proactively escape issues to the appropriate authority or team, and clearly identify which calls or decisions are yours to make.
Employee Leadership
  • Set clear expectations for attendance, conduct, safety, quality, productivity, organization, cleanliness, and teamwork.
  • Recognize strong performance and address performance concerns promptly.
  • Apply company policies fairly and consistently.
  • Execute the cross-training plan so your shift isn't dependent on any single person.
  • Maintain a clear, consistent, and objective record of all significant employee conversations, incidents, and performance concerns.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and accountable workplace culture.
Problem-Solving and Root-Cause Analysis
  • Respond quickly to machine downtime, process instability, automation faults, material shortages, quality concerns, and production delays.
  • Work directly with process technicians, maintenance, quality, automation, and production assistants.
  • Use structured methods — 5-Why, 8D, DMAIC, fishbone, Pareto — rather than guesswork.
  • Distinguish a temporary correction from a true root-cause solution and be clear about which one you applied.
  • Provide accurate information to support longer-term corrective action.
  • Avoid workarounds that violate safety, quality, process, or equipment requirements.
Performance and Communication
  • Review shift performance against production, labor, quality, downtime and efficiency expectations, and explain missed targets using facts and clearly identified causes.
  • Accurately record production quantities, scrap, downtime, labor, and significant operating events.
  • Deliver a complete handoff to the incoming leader: machine status, schedule position, staffing, quality concerns, maintenance needs, and open issues.
  • Clearly identify who owns each open issue and what action comes next.
  • Escalate significant concerns to the Senior Production Supervisor or production management.
Safety, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
  • Enforce safety requirements, quality standards, work instructions, and production procedures.
  • Stop or correct work that creates unacceptable safety, quality, process, or equipment risk.
  • Sustain 5S, standard work, and visual management on your shift — the audit should look the same at 3 AM as it does at 10 AM.
  • Flag where a standard does not match the reality of your shift.
  • Participate in improvement activities involving labor, downtime, scrap, quality, material flow, and training, and bring the off-shift perspective daytime teams often miss.
  • Ensure improvements and corrective actions stay in place after implementation.
  • Reinforce that production results never come at the expense of safety or quality.
