The Production Supervisor’s primary function is to direct and manage the trailer production activities of their area (i.e., Axle Department, Combo Start Line, Sidewall line). They ensure the area meets the production schedule and that the trailers produced are consistent with the engineering drawings provided in the drawing package.
Responsibilities
- Ensure individual and employee compliance with all safety rules and requirements.
- Manage and direct the activities of employees to ensure that the production, quality, and safety requirements are consistently met.
- Define staffing plan for the week based on production volume, prepare the line for a successful start of the next shift, manage rework/defects/scrap created by the team, implement preventive measures, and follow up on Lean Manufacturing activities.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, resolving grievances, and addressing complaints.
- Attend weekly safety meetings and communicate the topics discussed to employees in the group, ensuring that safety guidelines are followed and discipline is applied when necessary.
- Attend weekly “Review Meetings” that compare the Sales Order information and the Bill of Materials to identify discrepancies and secure resolution before work begins on the production floor.
- Coordinate with other supervisors and the superintendent to resolve any issues that could prevent the production schedule from being met.
- Work with the Engineering Department to resolve issues that arise during the build process that could result in a quality, safety, or performance problem.
- Communicate with the Production Manager and the ME/Maintenance Manager to ensure tooling, quality, and safety concerns are addressed while maintaining the production schedule.
- Manage direct reports’ timecards, including in/out punches, timecard approvals, vacation submissions and approvals, and other related tasks.

Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or GED required.
- Experience:
- Team Leader experience.
- Graduate of Team Leader Academy or college degree.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Scope of responsibilities (e.g., number of direct reports, difficulty level).
- Knowledge and/or skill in all processes the supervisor is responsible for, including production techniques, safety rules, inspection criteria, and plant-wide initiatives.
- Ability to instruct, direct, supervise, and lead individuals and teams effectively.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other customer specifications.
- Basic computer skills, including database, spreadsheet, word-processing, and email programs.
- Strong physical capability to meet the demands described in the physical/mental requirements section.
- Ability to learn and retain new information quickly.
- Strong organizational and task‑management skills.
- Self‑directed with initiative and drive.
- Certification in Emergency First Aid, CPR, and Automatic External Defibrillator (required, to be provided by the company after hire).
- Additional certifications (e.g., welding, paint) as required to lead and perform the job.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Travel required: None.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Stand and move on concrete for 8‑12 hours a day, including standing, sitting, speaking, hearing, seeing, walking, bending, reaching, grasping, stooping, kneeling, twisting, crawling, carrying, climbing, working overhead, pushing, and pulling.
- Perform occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and maneuver large parts or assemblies (up to 50 pounds).
- Create a safe work environment by wearing mandated PPE and following all safety protocols.
