Job summary

Teledyne FLIR in Elkridge seeks a hands-on Production Supervisor to lead a diverse team in a high-mix manufacturing environment. The role demands critical thinking, root-cause analysis, and strong collaboration with Engineering to resolve production or quality concerns.

You will balance administrative duties with floor presence, driving safety, cost, delivery, and quality while mentoring staff and implementing new policies. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of manufacturing experience preferably in a low volume/high mix environment.
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Associates degree or higher in an electronic or engineering field, commensurate work experience to be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Electrical or mechanical background with an understanding of electrical theory, mechanical assemblies, and experience with testing equipment.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing with a focus on implementation and sustainment.
  • Above average Microsoft Office skills with ability to produce metrics in chart form.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and/or monitor the production activities of employees.
  • Oversee the successful manufacturing of complex robotic systems as well as integrated mission systems in a fast paced, low volume/high mix manufacturing environment.
  • Manage and motivate production staff while meeting safety, cost, delivery, and quality expectations for the business.
  • Provide daily directions for production staff and act as a liaison between departments to communicate and eliminate productivity roadblocks.
  • Daily interaction with Engineering department to discuss/resolve production or quality concerns.
  • Attend and participate in meetings with senior leadership as required.
  • Manage production staff through communication of job expectations, planning, monitoring, coaching, counseling, disciplining, and providing performance evaluations.
  • Encourage and participate in employee career development.
  • Monitor and approve time sheets while tracking attendance records.
  • Ability to balance time between administrative work and being physically present on the production line for direct supervision/mentorship.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing new policies and procedures.
  • Coach and grow production team with a variety of career development methods.

The Production Supervisor role directly contributes to that mission and will require a person with a diversified skill set who is flexible and able to prioritize workloads and direct staff in a rapidly changing environment. This position is for a hands‑on leader with a strong work ethic and broad technical and administrative experience in a manufacturing environment. This person will need to utilize critical thinking, problem solving skills, and root cause analysis to drive continuous improvement.

  • Experience monitoring and managing production performance through goal setting, key performance indicators (KPI’s), and data analytics.
  • Able and willing to work in a warehouse environment with some outdoor activities related to testing and fielding equipment.
  • Required to travel on special occasion, expected to be less than 2 times a year

Desired/Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience with ERP/MRP systems, SAP preferred.
  • Experience implementing new values streams from ground up to steady state production.
  • Certification IPC-620, IPC 610, or J-Standard (current or expired).
  • Experience working in an ISO/ITAR controlled environment.
  • Served on a safety committee.

Salary Range:

$74,300.00-$99,100.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, local regulations (such as minimum wage), education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
