Job description

About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials was founded in 2017 by JB Straubel, co-founder and former CTO of Tesla, on a simple but radical idea: the critical minerals powering the energy transition already exist. They just need to come back. Today Redwood is the largest lithium-ion battery recycler in North America — recovering, refining, and redeploying critical minerals from end-of-life batteries back into the supply chain. On the energy side, Redwood has deployed the largest second-life battery project in the world, delivering power to AI data centers in months rather than years using proprietary energy architecture engineered entirely in-house. The company is profitable, the market it operates in is projected to grow 20 to 50 times over the next decade, and Redwood is the only company with the supply chain, the technology, and the operational scale to lead it.

In this leadership role, the Production Supervisor will guide a team of chemical operators in the continuous effort to produce in-spec products , safely and efficiently. The Production Supervisor will demonstrate consistent and best work practices to set the foundation for how chemical processing, safe work, and basic functional skills should be practiced throughout the facility. They will coordinate with respective stakeholders to continuously improve the day-to-day operation of the facility while continuing to grow their team’s skills .

Responsibilities will include:
  • Facilitate the implementation of the training program to ensure compliance is achieved for all training policies and requirements.
  • Build effective relationships with employees that will improve the likeliness to be successful; accomplished through strong manufacturing floor presence and ongoing engagement with front line supervisors and coordinators
  • Provide training and mentoring to new hires in safety, company policy, procedures, work instructions, along with manufacturing topics through hands-on and classroom-based learning
  • Development of individualized training plans to address deficiencies, resourcing, and optimization of overall staffing levels
  • In conjunction with site leadership, develops the department manufacturing strategy and supports its execution, including operations shift planning and delegation
  • Lead a diverse team to develop an inclusive work environment that delivers safe, reliable, cost optimized production
  • Set expectations, provide feedback, and hold people accountable for their actions and responsibilities in meeting those expectations
  • Work with all key stakeholders to ensure you and your team are prepared for start-up, shut down, and continual operation of the plant
  • Identify potential risks to performance. Lead your team in resolving those issues where possible. Escalate to the relevant stakeholders to minimize impact when necessary.
  • Communicate and drive complex improvement ideas and information effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Monitor production KPIs, making production changes where necessary to meet these KPIs
  • Able to prioritize and assign responsibility across team to efficiently manage an ever-changing environment
  • Listen to team member’s feedback and resolve any issues or conflict
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution required
  • AAS Degree or higher preferred
  • 5+ years in a chemical / mining / refinery facility
  • Previous experience in a training or leadership role highly preferred
  • Possess an interest in people development
  • Ability to differentiate learning strategies and instruction methods in varied situations
  • Excellent critical thinking and time management
  • Able to effectively communicate across the company hierarchy
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient hazard recognition skills and ability to teach and direct reports on hazard recognition abilities
  • Comfortable with fork lifts, hoists, and scissor lifts
  • Self-motivated; able to take problems and drive them to completion using company resources
  • Must be willing/able to work in a chemical manufacturing environment. Must be able to climb stairs, perform physical lifts up to 50 pounds and wear site standard PPE
  • Proficient understanding of life critical procedures such as Safe Work Permitting, Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Line Breaks/Openings, and Working from Heights
