Job summary

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense Company is seeking a manufacturing leader to drive safety, quality, and on-time production in our Simsbury, CT operations. You will lead daily production planning, mentor Assembly Technicians, collaborate with Engineering and Quality, and implement continuous improvement to reduce downtime and scrap.

At least 3 years in manufacturing/operations leadership and a related bachelor's degree are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing, operations, engineering, or production leadership experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience or familiarity in electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Project management skills with ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, and ERP/MRP planning systems.
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills for interaction with production teams and management.
  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Strong MS Windows skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiar with MS Project.

Responsibilities

  • Champion safety culture and ensure compliance with safety procedures and trainings.
  • Drive product quality by adhering to manufacturing standards and resolving nonconformances with Quality Engineering.
  • Ensure production schedules and customer commitments through planning, coordination, and execution of daily activities.
  • Reduce operational costs by minimizing downtime, labor inefficiencies, scrap, and rework.
  • Develop and communicate daily production plans, priorities, and resource assignments.
  • Track team performance against production goals and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead daily production meetings and maintain visual management systems for performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with Program Management and Production Planning to mitigate schedule risks.
  • Assist Master Scheduler to evaluate labor capacity and equipment loading.
  • Provide leadership and coaching for Assembly Technicians; foster engagement through training and mentoring.
  • Support new product introductions, manufacturing readiness, and program execution with Product Engineering.
  • Work with Quality Engineering to resolve product and process issues in a timely manner.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Materials teams to manage inventory and kanban systems.
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving for production challenges.

Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Champion a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with safety procedures, immediately addressing safety concerns and ensuring on-time completion of safety trainings
  • Drive product quality by ensuring adherence to manufacturing standards and partnering with Quality Engineering to promptly resolve nonconformances and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure production schedules and customer commitments are achieved through effective planning, coordination, and execution of daily manufacturing activities
  • Reduce operational costs by minimizing equipment downtime, labor inefficiencies, scrap, and rework
  • Develop and communicate daily production plans, priorities, and resource assignments
  • Track team performance against production goals and implement corrective actions when targets are at risk
  • Lead daily production meetings and maintain visual management systems to communicate performance, priorities, and key operational metrics
  • Proactively identify schedule risks and collaborate with Program Management and Production Planning to develop mitigation plans
  • Partner with the Master Scheduler to evaluate labor capacity and equipment loading, implementing solutions to address constraints or excess capacity
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management for Assembly Technicians
  • Foster employee engagement through training, development, mentoring, and recognition initiatives
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to support new product introductions, manufacturing readiness, and successful program execution
  • Work closely with Quality Engineering to facilitate timely resolution of product and process issues
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Materials teams to establish and/or maintain effective inventory management practices and kanban systems
  • Lead and participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives to address production challenges and process inefficiencies
Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of manufacturing, operations, engineering, or production leadership experience
  • Additionally, it is desired that the candidate has experience/education in the following areas: Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Experience or familiarity in electronics manufacturing
