Responsibilities
Job Summary
- Supervises the activities of production personnel engaged in all facets of the manufacturing function. Works with Production Manager to implement department and group goals for Production staff to reduce operational costs and improve efficiency and quality through Lean Manufacturing and 5S. Plans daily and weekly activities and projects for assembly, enforcing all company policy and procedures. Assists in training production staff to provide opportunities for future growth and advancement. Provides a climate for motivation, creates a supportive working relationship with staff, and emphasizes continual development.
Major Responsibilities
- Supervisory
- Responsible for evaluating performance, promoting, training, hiring/firing Lake Forest Manufacturing Assembly employees.
- Issues assignments to assembly personnel and moves resources on production floor to meet schedule demands.
- Managing the floor
- Works with Planners and Process or Manufacturing Engineers to revise operation lead times and production schedule to meet required manufacturing completion dates.
- Interprets engineering and manufacturing documentation for workers as required. Responsible for maintaining 5S requirements and a clean and safe work environment.
- Prepares, collects and maintains reports such as job status, units shipped, units built, rework hours and monthly squawks for weekly and monthly department production reports and utilizes this information to proactively implement continuous improvement.
- Process
- Explains and demonstrates manufacturing procedures and techniques to workers as lessons learned when corrective actions, rejects or squawks are issued; documents training completed by staff.
- Verifies that assembly personnel are properly performing their assigned tasks, that quality procedures are being followed and that manufacturing requirements are being achieved.
- Recommends improvements in methods, procedures and/or equipment to achieve or exceed committed goals of quality and quantity of product being produced.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) a minimum, College degree preferred.
- Lean/Six Sigma and 5S Certification highly desirable.
- At least 7 years experience in electrical/mechanical assembly or similar manufacturing production field.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Lead or Supervisor in a production role in aerospace or related field.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Ability to determine work priorities and delegate work to others.
- Ability to perform in a team environment with good interpersonal skills. Provides leadership to and/or technical guidance to other assemblers.
- Strong comprehension of configuration management, production and process control.
- Proficient computer skills to access released drawings and operate ORACLE to run reports.
- Ability to work in a changing fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to meet or exceed quality and quantity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to maintain safe, clean and organized work areas.
- Ability to learn new skills when presented new information.
- Must be capable of reading, understanding and following instructions, written or verbal.
Other Requirements
- Must be flexible and provide adequate coverage of 2nd shift as required.
- Ability to stand/walk for an extended period of time.
- Repetitive hand/feet movement required in the use of manual and electric tools.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Good-hand eye coordination, sharp eyesight for ensuring accuracy.
- Ability to maintain normal levels of productivity.
- Ability to focus on details with regard to procedures and workflow.
