Job summary

A.O. Smith in Johnson City, TN seeks a Manufacturing Supervisor for 2nd shift to oversee the manufacturing department, direct plant personnel, and ensure daily production schedules are met.

You will work with leaders, engineers, and quality staff to resolve issues, maintain safety, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring product quality per company standards. The role requires leadership experience and strong communication; Bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of related work experience or training.
• 2+ years of supervisory/leadership experience.
• Experience in manufacturing and supervision.
• Proficiency in preparing and interpreting metrics and reports.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and enforce company policies to Leaders and Operators.

• Notify HR of emergencies and first-aid needs.
• Investigate injuries and support corrective actions.

• Study production schedules and estimate man-hours for tasks.
• Ensure on-time completion of all production schedules.
• Maintain product quality per company guidelines.

Primary Function

Responsible for the efficient operation of Manufacturing Department, the direction of the plant work force and the meeting of daily production schedules. Supervises and coordinates activities of Leaders and workers. Verifies correct manufacturing processes are adhered to. Works with other operators, engineers and quality personnel to identify and resolve potential customer issues.

2nd Shift Schedule: Working hours from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and enforce company policies and procedures to Leaders and Operators.
• Responsible for establishing a safe workplace through employee involvement.
• Notify Human Resources of emergencies and employees needing first aid.
• Investigate all injuries; provide support on implementation of suggested corrective procedures.
• Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
• Responsible for timely notification of scheduled hours to leaders and employees.
• Responsible for completing employee time, absenteeism, and vacation paperwork or systems in a timely manner.
• Develop and promote positive relations with employees through effective communication of company policies and procedures.
• Responsible for investigating conflicts and the discipline of personnel within the Manufacturing Department.
• Responsible for coordination and implementation of the cross training program, the manufacturing training program and departmental rotation plans.
• Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist Leaders in solving work problems.
• Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications; analyze all nonconformances for root cause and implement corrective procedures.
• Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
• Study production schedules, estimate man-hours requirements for completion of job assignment and make appropriate action plans.
• Responsible for timely completion of all manufacturing production schedules including subassemblies, service requirements, and other department requests.
• Responsible for product quality in accordance with established Company guidelines and / or specifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering or related field, preferred
• 3+ years of related work experience or training
• 2+ years of supervisory/leadership experience
• Experience in manufacturing and supervision
• Ability to prepare and interpret various metrics, and reports
• Ability to identify problems and take appropriate corrective measures
• Effective communication skills via written and oral
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.
• Proficient mathematical skills
• Valid Drivers License
