Job summary

Hancock Enterprises, based in Taylor, Michigan, seeks a Production Supervisor to lead a night-shift operations team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and achieving production goals while coordinating with the Plant Manager and other departments.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of supervision in discrete manufacturing, Lean Six Sigma experience, and a four-year degree.

Qualifications

  • We are seeking 5+ years of production supervision/management experience in manufacturing, with union workforce experience highly preferred.
  • Experience with discrete manufacturing such as press equipment and metal stamping production processes.
  • 1+ years of Continuous Improvement or Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Ability to operate with high urgency and personal initiative with strong staff coordination.
  • Four-year bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, business, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Plant Manager/Production Manager to support operational objectives and KPIs.
  • Implement safety programs to achieve accident-free performance.
  • Safely and efficiently manage material flow and production for a work shift.
  • Make hiring, termination, discipline, promotion, or demotion decisions within span of control.
  • Resolve worker issues/complaints and escalate as needed.
  • Communicate goals across departments to drive productivity.
  • Review production orders and schedules to plan operations and meet delivery dates.
  • Plan production operations, set priorities, and sequence manufacturing activities.
  • Prepare schedules and coordinate activities to meet specs and quality.
  • Develop/improve standard operating practices and ensure compliance.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives and Lean/Visual management.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to satisfy service objectives.
  • Analyze production data to solve operational issues.
  • Ensure paperwork is completed accurately and on time.
  • Enforce all company policies including safety, housekeeping, and attendance.
  • Assist subordinates with tasks for training or emergencies.
  • Provide leadership and ensure best practices in Quality, HSE, and environment; lift up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

We are searching for a candidate with:

  • 5+ years of production supervision/management experience in a manufacturing organization – experience supervising a union work force highly preferred.
  • Experience with discrete manufacturing such as press equipment and metal stamping production processes.
  • 1+ years of Continuous Improvement or Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Ability to operate with high urgency and personal initiative, while maintaining excellent coordination and communication with staff.
  • Four (4) year bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, business, or related field highly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities

A typical day may include:

  • Establish a strong partnership with Plant Manager/Production Manager to support overall operational objectives and key performance metrics.
  • Implement the company’s safety program to achieve accident-free performance.
  • Has the primary duty of safely and efficiently managing material flow and production for a work shift
  • Recommend hiring, termination, discipline, promotion, demotion of employees within span of control.
  • Resolves worker issues/complaints or submits unsettled grievances to next level of management for action.
  • Effectively communicate departmental and plant wide goals to employees in a productive manner.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.
  • Plan production operations, while establishing priorities and sequencing for manufacturing products.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Support Continuous Improvement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and implement Lean/Visual management techniques. Directs Lean initiatives and processes as identified/required.
  • Develop strong, collaborative relationships across the business – maintenance, warehouse/shipping, sales, finance, etc. in order to meet high service expectations and business objectives.
  • Compile and analyze production data to develop solutions to complex operational issues.
  • Ensures that subordinates submit all required paperwork on time, complete, accurate, and legible.
  • Responsible for enforcing all company policies and procedures, which includes safety, housekeeping, attendance, quality, and administrative.
  • Assists subordinates with assigned tasks for training purposes or in emergency situations.
  • Provide leadership and direct all manufacturing activity on site ensuring best practice/compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, environmental%
  • Any other responsibilities deemed necessary by Leadership.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Safety & Housekeeping
  • Provide visible leadership and set the standard for safe work practices, including compliance with LOTO, PPE, and machine guarding requirements.
  • Lead and enforce all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe production environment.
  • Actively promote a strong safety culture through coaching, accountability, and employee engagement.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, observations, and inspections to identify and correct hazards.
  • Ensure work areas are maintained in a clean, organized, and hazard-free condition (5S/housekeeping).
  • Communicate safety expectations clearly and address unsafe behaviors or conditions promptly.
  • Partner with leadership and safety teams to communicate risks, report incidents, and recommend continuous safety improvements.
  • Full Time; position is for night shift but must be flexible for occasional day or weekend work as necessary
