Job summary

Confident Search Consultants seeks a Shift Supervisor for a 24/7 continuous chemical processing operation in the Batavia, IL area. You will lead a dozen operators, manage batch schedules, oversight of automated controls, and ensure safety and quality across multiple process areas.

This role emphasizes hands-on floor leadership with significant scheduling and coordination responsibilities, including shift documentation and batch traceability.

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related field, or 5+ years leading people in chemical processing.
• Continuous process chemical experience required; polymer/coatings backgrounds translate well.
• PSM exposure strongly preferred.
• Shift leadership experience in chemical/industrial manufacturing with on-site decision authority.
• Background with automated process controls preferred.
• Willingness to split time between floor and desk.
• Steady work history showing growth.

Responsibilities

• Direct a crew of roughly a dozen operators across several process areas.
• Get ahead of reaction issues and deviations, making the call when something goes sideways.
• Set batch schedules, verify raw material inventory, and coordinate inbound tanker unloads.
• Watch process systems from the control room and enforce standards.
• Document each shift, including batch traceability and deviations.
• Plan manual work such as raw material loading, QC sampling, and cleanout at end of runs.
• Own safety, housekeeping, and operating standards for the shift.

Location: Batavia, IL (On-site)
Compensation: $85,000 to $105,000 + bonus
Schedule: New 3rd shift, 24/7 operation with weekend rotation

Overview

A large international chemical producer is adding a shift supervisor as its suburban Chicago plant moves from two shifts to three. The process is continuous and heavily automated, with operators running things from a central control room while the supervisor covers the floor across every production area. Expect to spend most of the shift out on the floor, with the rest going to scheduling, reporting, and coordination. Because the shift is brand new, the person who takes it will shape how it runs.

What the Job Involves
