Job summary

A leading manufacturing company is seeking a Production Superintendent to oversee plant operations. The successful candidate will supervise production personnel, manage budgets, and ensure quality standards are met. Summary

The Production Superintendent supervises and directs plant operations in the most efficient manner to produce quality products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises and directs all production department personnel in the effective and economic utilization of the plant's manufacturing facilities to produce products to the company and customer's specifications according to production schedules.
  • Recommends alterations and replacement of equipment as they become either obsolete, or in need of alteration or redesign, and makes improvements as necessary to effectively meet production schedules and quality standards.
  • Interviews, selects and hires qualified personnel for production.
  • Develops and controls items of expense budgets associated with the operation of the production department and initiates cost reduction as appropriate.
  • Maintains a high level of standards for safety, housekeeping and environmental goals commensurate with Company policies and practices as they relate to both corporate and community needs.
  • Serves as technical advisor to the Plant Manager and maintains cooperation with other departments and personnel within the plant.
  • Develops and maintains satisfactory employee relations including the exercising of necessary discipline procedure in accordance with and cooperation with industrial relations practices and policies.
  • Helps to develop and maintain reporting of production priorities needed to effectively measure department's activities and in cooperation with the plant's service departments.
  • Maintains good community relationships as they relate to assigned employees and the plant's effectiveness in reaching its objectives.
  • Maintains records and inventories to effectively meet downtime goals but within the plant's budgets and good investment practices.
  • Proposes and performs development runs and makes recommendations of products that need to meet approved changes in the company's product line.
  • Cooperates with service departments in changing the plant's methods and procedures in the utilization of employees and materials that will effectively improve the plant's operation.
  • Is responsible for the effective training of employees and administering performance evaluations.
  • Performs other job—related assignments as directed by the Plant Manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervision is exercised over Production employees, both directly or indirectly through subordinate supervisors. Works under Company policies and procedures on a day‑to‑day basis with limited supervision.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Diverse knowledge of complex manufacturing processes and equipment, including repairs, installation and maintenance.
  • Ability to impart management policy and methods to achieve objectives of plant.
  • Supervisory experience, people skills, ability to manage complex working environment.

Computer Skills

Possess basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and schematics. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to identify trends and develop action plans to address issues.
