Job summary

DG Foods is seeking a Production Shift Manager to direct, coordinate, and optimize plant operations for the shift at the Bastrop facility. You will lead production, shipping, receiving, and sanitation while maintaining safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Qualifications

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for directing, controlling, and coordination of all aspects of plant operations within a shift for the processing plant. Ensures all objectives are achieved at the lowest cost consistent with quality requirements. Directs all functions of production, shipping, receiving, and sanitation. This position will manage and direct supervision of the processing operation on a continual basis and ensure all areas of responsibility meet objectives at a designed quality level consistent with the lowest cost while maintaining a safe work environment. The primary focus is to maximize the long-term profitability of the company.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage, direct, and coordinate overall plant operations for the shift.
  • Recruit, select, train, develop, and motivate staff to maintain plant operations.

Responsible for plant security by ensuring all programs are followed to deter theft, and secure products as

well as plant assets.

Above average knowledge of USDA policies, practices, and procedures.

Responsible for adhering to all safety and health programs for the location under his/her management as

well as promote and support a participative program, which encourages a high level of employee

involvement.

Conduct plant inspections as necessary to eliminate hazardous conditions.

Manage all aspects of operations to assure a safe working environment.

Monitoring operations to meet company policies, quality specifications, USDA, and OSHA standards.

Take immediate action to eliminate improper practices or hazardous conditions.

Knowledge of and ensure compliance of all federal, state, and local regulations within the plant

Ensure sanitation meets USDA standards as well as company objectives.

Maintain plant property and equipment in good condition to ensure compliance with governmental

regulations and to ensure effective and economical operations.

Provide coaching and leadership to salary team members in the areas of safety, continuous improvement,

productivity, quality, cost, equipment, reliability, and employee engagement to achieve company goals.

Encourage subordinates to find ways to reduce costs.

Coordinates activities of departments to ensure efficiency and low costs.

Assign or delegate responsibility for specified work or functional activities and disseminate policy to

Superintendents, Supervisors, and Foremen.

Give work directions, resolve problems, prepare schedules, and set deadlines to ensure timely completion

of work.

Provide a clear sense of direction to Superintendents, Supervisors and Foremen to work towards and

encourage teamwork to achieve goals.

Directs production and ensure cost effectiveness and consistency with prescribed quality, accuracy, and

performance standards.

Assist in setting production and processing goals for plant.

Monitor performance of each department to meet production efficiency, yield, and quality goals.

Set objectives and review shifts performance versus objectives.

Establish challenging goals and standards for each subordinate and encourage best efforts to accomplish

them.

Ensure effective customer service and relations through professional communication and timely delivery

of quality product.

Work in concert with functional leaders to meet quality and food safety regulations.

Work in concert with functional leaders to comply with regulatory guidelines and foster positive working

relations with local and state agencies including but not limited to USDA, OSHA, and EPA.

Maintain a positive employee relations environment.

Direct, coordinate, and follow-up with subordinate managers and supervisors on all assigned tasks, duties,

or responsibilities.

Learn, understand, and adhere to current Union negotiated contract.

All other relevant duties as assigned

  • Has approximately 4 - 6 direct reports
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of policies and procedures of operations
  • Keeps current with and effectively applies new work skills to complete work
  • This role is a "Leader of People" role with required competencies: Sizing up People, Delegation, Planning, Customer Focus, and Conflict Management

Qualifications:

  • Regular attendance is required.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Bilingual and fluent in Spanish is preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Poultry Science, Business Management or other closely related field of study or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • 5+ year(s) poultry industry experience preferred.
  • Proficient technology, computer, mathematics, and analysis skills.
  • Ability to create and comprehend Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Repetitive hand motions, reaching, and lifting 20 - 70 lbs.
  • Frequently stoop, kneel, crawl, twist, bend and lift various weights as needed
  • Exposure to cold, humid environment with temperatures ranging from 40 to 90 degrees
  • Exposure to noise levels greater than 85 decibels in certain areas of facility
  • Exposure to chemical odors, including ammonia, Peroxyacetic Acid (PAA)
