Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Rockford, IL is seeking a skilled Materials/Inventory Planner to own the inventory plan across Raw, WIP and Finished Goods, ensuring on-time delivery to production lines and customers. You will coordinate with manufacturing on priority changes, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and manage staffing and training to support operations.

A strong background in SAP and capacity planning is required, along with U.S. citizenship for system access.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
• SAP experience is required.
• Capacity planning experience is required.
• Experience driving product flow and on-time delivery is expected.
• Demonstrated leadership competency; U.S. citizenship is required for access to certain systems.

Responsibilities

• Development and ownership of the inventory plan (Raw, WIP, Finished Goods) aligned with AOP/SFP objectives.
• Ensure on-time delivery of materials to production lines and customers by managing planning, staging, and fulfillment processes.
• Support quarterly analysis of Excess & Obsolete, PFEP, EMP, and Entitlement, including development and execution of resulting actions.
• Coordinate with manufacturing to manage changes in production priorities or order modifications.
• Champion continuous improvement for material planning, receiving, storage, staging, and WIP control.
• Assess workload requirements to ensure adequate staffing and training.
• Manage material strategy to support NPI to end of life.
• Oversee end-to-end materials process including planning, scheduling, logistics, and delivery commitment.
• Track inventory control efforts and cycle counting to meet site targets.
• Lead material movement strategies and Kitting methods across storage to final delivery.
• Support site SIOP reviews and monitor key metrics.

What You Will Do

• Development and ownership of the inventory plan (Raw, WIP, and Finished Goods) aligned with AOP/SFP objectives, including defining action items to achieve targeted outcomes
• Ensure on-time delivery (OTD) of materials to production lines (on time starts) and customers by managing planning, staging, and fulfillment processes
• Support quarterly analysis of Excess & Obsolete (E&O), PFEP, (Effective Material Planning (EMP) and Entitlement, including the development and execution of resulting action items
• Coordinate with the manufacturing team to manage changes in production priorities or order modifications
• Champion continuous improvement for material planning, receiving, storage, staging, and WIP control
• Assess workload requirements to ensure adequate staffing is in place to support business operations and facilitate training and development of employees
• Manage the material strategy to support the New Product Introduction to End of Life
• Oversee the end-to-end materials process for the site, including planning, detailed scheduling, logistics, and delivery commitment, and lead strategic inventory initiatives
• Accountable for inventory control (e.g., cycle counting) ensuring stock is maintained at an appropriate level and meet site NITO targets
• Play a key role in the manufacturing automation strategy, material release strategy, handling methods, kitting strategy and material movement methods for all parts from storage location through to final delivery
• Support site SIOP reviews
• Monitor and report on key metrics for the site, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
• Manage the execution of production schedules set by Production Planners
• Manage the coordination of Production Planner engagement across the Product Management Team (PMT): master production schedulers, quality, engineering, purchasing, inventory control, program management leaders and other groups, and remove barriers as they arise
• Communicate any changes or production impacts that affect the aligned production plan
• Track and report execution metrics such as Schedule adherence and On time to release Production Orders and address root cause corrective action as applicable
• Summarize and present material availability data for the S&OE horizon to site leadership
• Mentors, guides, and trains all Production Planners, while setting performance goals aligned with organizational objectives

What You Will Learn

• Develop expertise in capacity management, identifying and addressing long-term capacity gaps to meet customer demands and support the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning process.
• Refine your leadership abilities by driving part shortage resolutions, overseeing operations to ensure schedule adherence, and contributing to risk mitigation strategies
• Monitor Production Planning processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements
• Attend site Tier meetings, support escalation processes, and report on the latest material availability priorities and challenges to execute the production plan
• Track and report execution metrics (Schedule adherence, On Time to Release Production Orders, Aged WIP
• Ensure compliance with company policies, materials governance, and audit requirements
• Resolve escalation of material shortages, bottlenecks, and disruptions; manage the implementation of recovery schedule and mitigation plans with cross-functional team

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
