Job summary

Airgas in San Jose, CA is hiring a Production Operator IV to safely handle and fill gas products into liquid, medical and high‑pressure cylinders. You will monitor equipment, prepare cylinders, verify weights and labels, and support safety checks per government and Airgas standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Safely handles and fills gas products into liquids, medical and high-pressure cylinders.
  • Monitors equipment and performs filling per procedures, including testing and labeling.
  • Prepares high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling.
  • Attaches manifolds and evacuates cylinders to eliminate contaminants.
  • Coordinates loading/unloading of cylinders and operates warehouse equipment.
  • Completes quality control sheets and ensures compliance with DOT, FDA, OSHA and Airgas standards.

The Plant Operator IV will contribute to safely handling and filling gas products into liquid, medical and high pressure gas cylinders in compliance with federal, state, local regulations, and meeting the standard operating procedures of Airgas. Performing various duties in the plant including monitoring equipment to fill industrial gas mixes, cryogenic gases and medical gas products as well as supporting Level 1 & 2 duties. Carefully checks and verifies cylinders prior to filling, following standard procedures as required by government, Airgas, and distributor standards. Partners in conducting a variety of Safety checks per procedures, such as odor tests, checking caps and valves. Analyzes products for purity and correct mixtures. Safely operates and works with high-pressure, medical and liquid cylinders. Prepares high pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling. Attaches to manifold, evacuates cylinders to eliminate all possible contaminants. Fills cylinders by pressure and weight, per regulations and standards. Collaborates on the loading & unloading of cylinders on & off pallets and tractor trailers. Operates a forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment. Coordinates documentation to DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards. Completes quality control sheets as required. Applies understanding of hazards of various gases; size and contents of cylinders by reading and interpreting cylinder labels and the color-coding of tanks. Accurately labels cylinders. Complies with all government and company standards relating to the safe handling of hazardous materials/cylinder gases. Maintains a neat, clean and orderly plant appearance. Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of prior experience in filling low pressure gases
  • Must have completed training and be proficient in filling all cryogenic liquids as well as all pure industrial gases.
  • Strong background in gas, welding and safety supply industry or chemical industry preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets.
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong level of attention to detail.

The hourly base pay range for this position in California is $27.50/hr. Please note that the hourly base pay information is a general guideline only.
