Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC) seeks an entry-level operator to assist in loading, unloading, and operating melt shop furnaces. The role involves fabricating electrodes and stubs, maintaining equipment, and following all safety procedures and SOPs.

Shift work includes 12-hour cycles, with PPE and uniforms provided to all qualified applicants. The position emphasizes hands-on work in a non-air-conditioned environment, with opportunities to learn welding and furnace operation among experienced

Responsibilities

• Assist operators in loading, unloading, and handling materials.
• Assist in maintenance of furnaces and loading/unloading furnace accessories.
• Inspect and clean welds, stubs, electrodes and crucibles as required.
• Fabricate electrodes and stubs by welding per welding specifications.
• Maintain records and enter data in computer systems as needed.
• Operate materials handling equipment such as cranes and hoists.
• Keep work area clean and orderly.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment under supervision.

Job description

To assist operator in loading, unloading, vacuum arc re-melt furnaces and weld stubs and wafers on metal electrodes. Produce titanium metal to specifications at an acceptable production pace. Follow all safety & standard operating procedures. This is the entry level role for the melt shop line of promotion.

Tools & Equipment

Furnace assemblies, materials handling equipment, fork truck, hand tools, plasma arc welding equipment, wire welding equipment, weld chamber, vacuum pumps, hydroblaster, work savers, cranes, hoists, welding units, welding jig, floor-controlled overhead crane, cleaning tools, hand truck, measuring tape, work saver, forklift, scales, copper crucible & bottoms, tumbler etc.

Materials

Initial charge sponge and metal electrodes, stubs, wafers, titanium wire, inert gas, acid, etc.

Working Proceedure

• Assists operators in material handling.
• Assists operators in disconnecting furnace accessories and loading.
• Assists operators in maintenance of furnaces.
• Cleans and inspects welds removes any contaminants.
• Identifies cleans and inspects stubs for use in fabrication of electrode per welding specifications.
• Fabricates electrodes by welding aligned electrode, stubs by operating weld line and weld chamber controls and power rollers.
• Completes & maintains records and make computer entries as required. (Peak entries & sign-off)
• Keeps equipment and working area in clean and orderly condition.
• In transporting stubs, fabricated electrodes, and ingots, operates materials handling equipment, cranes, hoists, etc.,
• Break mis-welded electrode apart and also repair electrodes welds as required
• Clean, inspect, drop check and paint crucibles signs off crucibles per direction of Double Melt Furnace Operator.
• Unloads electrodes & ingots from crucible. Cleans and inspects crucible bottoms.
• Makes minor maintenance and repairs to equipment and assists maintenance employees in major maintenance and repairs. Performs minor PM's on equipment.
• Places electrodes on descaler with crane and turns on automatic cycle
• Fabricates electrodes by welding aligned compacts, sponge ends & stubs. Operating weld lines and weld chamber controls, wire weld units utilizing required tools and equipment.
• Loads, unloads and transports materials and supplies to and from other areas.

Position Requirements

• Works 12hr shifts 4am to 4pm or 4pm to 4am, candidate must be shift flexible.
• The environment is not air conditioned.
• All PPE including uniforms are provided.
• Must have experience in construction or in an industrial setting.
