Job summary

Carba Inc. in Burnsville, MN is seeking hands-on Equipment Operators to support our biomass carbonization process.

You will operate Carba-built and purchased equipment, start up and shut down procedures, and record operational metrics in a fast-paced outdoor environment. Responsibilities include performing scheduled maintenance, responding to on-site failures, assisting engineering with upgrades, moving biomass and charcoal, and maintaining a clean, safe workplace.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Carba is working to mitigate the worst effects of climate change by permanently removing billions of tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. We have developed an innovative process that involves the pyrolysis of biomass waste to create charcoal/biochar (solid carbon) that is buried underground where it is stable for thousands to millions of years.

Position Overview:

Objectives and Responsibilities:

Equipment Operations

Operate Carba built and purchased equipment including shutdown and startup procedures and continuous operating

Record and report operational metrics and adhere to equipment SOP and safety requirements

Maintenance and Continuous Improvement

Conduct scheduled maintenance protocols on equipment for preventative maintenance

Respond to and conduct maintenance on immediate failures that would occur on-site with the equipment

Assist the engineering team with the implementation with equipment upgrades and process changes

Site operations

Utilizing equipment to move piles of biomass (e.g., woodchips) and charcoal

Maintain a clean and organized workplace

Maintain a safe working environment

Skills and Qualifications:

Experience with large equipment handling and/or relevant industry or military experience

Strong focus on safety

Track record of operating equipment to specification

Demonstrated ability to solve mechanical problems

Familiarity with following SOPs and reporting

Self-motivated, organized, thrives in small team environment, likes challenges, accountable, looking for growth

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Must be able to wear respirator

Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
