Overview

Production Operators rotate through positions within Crown Health Care Laundry’s plant to receive, sort, wash, dry, iron, and load linens for delivery to hospitals and medical facilities. Employees learn and operate various production equipment, meeting or exceeding customer expectations while maintaining safety.

Employees are required to learn all equipment and rotate as needed. The typical learning curve is 2–5 working days, and performance standards must be met within two weeks of hire and sustained thereafter.

All Production Operation employees, whether in Soil or Clean Production areas, must perform other duties as assigned and adhere to all quality and safety standards. All employees are able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

Soil Operations

Primary purpose: safely sort returned, soiled linen into appropriate classifications in preparation for washing, and ready the loads for the Clean side of the plant.

• Open customer‑returned soil bags (≈45 lbs.) and distribute the product on the soil belt, pre‑sorting classifications as required. Must meet the standard of 45 bags or 2000 lbs. opened per hour per operator.
• Work on the platform, moving between positions up and down the belt to sort into the appropriate bins or slots. This is a team operation that ensures linens are sorted safely, quickly, and accurately.
• Move empty carts to the area for cleaning and reuse.
• Cart cleaners ensure that carts containing returned bagged soiled laundry are cleaned, sterilized, dried, and lined, then ready for loading onto trucks that deliver clean sterile linens to customers.

Clean Operations

Catcher

• Secure linen carts and learn how to stack and build carts proficiently to meet customer standards.
• Remove linens from the folder machine, count and stack them, and push the full baskets to the next staging area.
• Secure a linen cart and maneuver it into its designated position.
• Remove items from the conveyor, catching up to six stations.
• If an item is jammed or hung up, contact maintenance. (Only maintenance or production managers can pull jams.)
• May take empty carts to the dryer area and bring other carts back to the work area.
• Adhere to quality standards in quantity and stack completion.
• Remove non‑Crown items, scrub bricks, blankets, or any foreign objects, and set them aside.
• Make routine quality decisions, such as deciding whether linen is ready for loading into a cart.
• Identify stuck or malfunctioning items and call maintenance when necessary.

Hand Folder

• Take items as they come out of the washer or presser, hand‑fold, stack, and place them on the appropriate cart or belt.
• Identify the number of items per stack through on‑the‑job training.
• Pull the cart over to the work area, positioning linen at waist level.
• Fold items and place them on the countertop.
• For larger items, perform group folding with partners and stack the finished pieces in groups of five.
• Fill the cart in the designated manner and move it to the next work area.
• Self‑check for holes, tears, stains, mand decide whether to rewash.
• Self‑identify and remove non‑Company product.
• Determine how many items belong in each stack.

Ironer

• Run clean‑processed linen through the ironer machine (feeder, ironer, folder).
• Bend down, lift flat sheets, blankets, or pillowcases from the platform, and loosen linens to ensure safe handling before feeding.
• Feed linens into the spreader, using spreader clips or the spreader arm.
• Manage the two‑feed process that propels linens first to the spreader, then to the ironer.
• If pillowcases must be fed, coordinate with 2–4 people.
• Identify when linens must go into the re‑wash basket per guidelines (hole, stain, impermissible quality).
• Self‑judge mandatory maintenance calls if an item is stuck or machinery fails.
• Mandatory compliance with all safety requirements for the machine and the position.

Shipping Clerk

• Build carts, operate the scale to weigh carts, and record information accurately.
• Secure orders by attaching the order form to the cart.
• Maintain and track which orders have been filled or not.
• Collect finished carts by walking through the plant, propelling them to the weighing area.
• Weigh carts: pull onto the scale, record weight, remove off the scale, and repeat.
• Enter the propper information into the shipping software.
• Load delivery trucks by propelling weighed carts onto the back of the appropriate truck.
• Fill in for other positions as required (e.g., production operator, builder).
• Must have basic computer knowledge and willingness to learn new applications.
• Must receive mandatory Hep B shot.
