Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for developing and managing the packaging of fresh produce ensuring that the department meets production targets and operates in compliance with quality, customer specifications and food safety standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee the production department managing staffing levels, productivity, cost controls, waste reduction, and overall department efficiencies.
  • May oversee multiple production operations.
  • Establish and implement SOPs and production schedules for the department.
  • Implement best practices and follow lean manufacturing principles while maintaining department KPIs.
  • Develop, maintain, and review all necessary packing records.
  • Monitor the quantity and quality of product to ensure that it is of the required standard.
  • Provide effective and timely coaching, training, and corrective action guidance as well as performance management to department supervisors.
  • Responsible for the department's safe working environment; ensuring that company and statutory hygiene, housekeeping and safety policies and procedures are complied with.
  • In collaboration with the Food Safety team, ensure department training, compliance, and enforcement of all company policies/procedures/guidelines regarding food safety, GMPs, SOPs, and HACCP.
  • In partnership with the HR team, ensure department training, compliance, and enforcement of all company policies/procedures/guidelines as well as local, state, and federal laws.
  • Other core expectations as defined by the company.
Requirements and Skills
  • Secondary school education required; post-secondary education Business Administration, Engineering or related discipline preferred. Version: 3 Dated Revised: 06/06/2024
  • Minimum of 3 years of high volume, production department management experience, required; experience in a fresh produce packing/production environment, preferred.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining department efficiencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of packaging and/or packing processes is essential.
  • Continuous improvement experience including working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with Good Manufacturing Practices, Health and Safety and Food Safety.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of ERP software; Famous® software experience, preferred.
  • Able to work in a team environment with individuals of all leadership styles, personalities, and career levels.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative requirements to maintain compliance to all relevant statues and guiding principles
  • Must be able to handle sensitive issues with tact and maintain strict confidentiality of private information.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate keen attention to detail and task-related accuracy, as well as consistent follow-through skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible to shift assignments as required to meet both customer & business needs
Working Conditions
  • Hours of work may vary depending on business needs; ability and willingness to travel between facilities.
  • This job operates within a refrigerated warehouse, where temperatures range from 45-55°F. The noise level in the work environment can be loud due to packaging machinery, and forklift truck operation.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; bend; twist; use hands to handle or feel product or packaging; and reach with hands and arms. The position involves walking and lifting, regularly, up to 30-pounds, occasionally up to 50-pounds. Visual requirements
