Job summary

AkzoNobel in Huron, OH, is seeking a Production Manager to lead coatings manufacturing operations. The role drives safety, reliability, and eco‑efficiency while mentoring the team and overseeing budgeted activities.

You will collaborate with R&D and cross‑functional teams to deliver new products, implement excellence programs, and ensure effective communication across all organizational levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or related field or 6+ years of related manufacturing experience.
  • 5+ years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and people development skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with clear prioritization.
  • Effective communicator with all levels of the organization.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, ERP systems).

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to site objectives from a production perspective and align with HSE and site plan.
  • Lead an operational excellence agenda to improve safety, reliability, productivity, quality and eco-efficiency.
  • Implement ALPS, CoE, and Quality processes per ISC agenda.
  • Develop and coach team members to build a capable, engaged workforce.
  • Manage human resources, talent management and succession planning.
  • Participate in defining and executing investments for production activities and equipment.
  • Collaborate with R&D to enable New Product Introductions.
  • Lead Tier 2–4 meetings and resolve day-to-day issues at the appropriate level.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the formulation of site objectives from a production perspective and ensure site capabilities, constraints and HSE considerations are incorporated into the site plan.
  • Lead an operational excellence agenda by coaching & teaching functional excellence in all areas while achieving sustainable improvement in the safety, reliability, productivity, quality and eco-efficiency of the production or plant operations.
  • Implement ALPS, CoE, and Quality processes for site consistent with the agreed ISC functional excellence agenda.
  • Develop individual team members and build a team collectively capable of and fully involved in achieving the task. Establish and enforce minimum personal performance level within Production.
  • Manage human resources, stimulate talent management and identify and select talents with growth potential.
  • Participate in the definition & execution of investments for production related activities and equipment.
  • Work with RD&I to enable New Product Introductions.
  • Lead and participate in Tier 2, 3 and 4 meetings. Ensure day‑to‑day problems are solved and contained at the right level.
  • Inspire commitment to AkzoNobel’s purpose, vision, strategy, core principles, values and leadership behaviors.
  • Ensure that job profiles are in place, set objectives for team members, review development and provide clear, open and constructive feedback on performance combined with the appropriate actions.
  • Manage relevant budgets and proactively manage cost.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, or other related field from a four‑year college or university or 6+ years of paint manufacturing or liquid batch manufacturing experience
  • 5+ years of previous supervisory/management experience
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal skills, performance management, and people development skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with clear prioritization and organizational skills
  • Effective communicator with all levels of the organization (employees, managers, customers)
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office, ERP systems, etc.)

Base salary range for this role is: $120,000 - $135,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
