Job summary

Infra Pipes is seeking a Production Manager to lead the 24x7 extrusion operations and manage a team of supervisors and operators. The role requires strong leadership, safety and quality oversight, and a focus on continuous improvement to optimize productivity and reduce downtime.

The position is day shift with the flexibility to cover night shifts as needed. The candidate will coordinate with cross-functional teams, manage materials and equipment, and drive improvements in process efficiency

Qualifications

  • Experience leading production teams in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong communication skills in English; Spanish bilingual preferred.
  • Proven track record implementing Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of safety, quality, and OSHA standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily extrusion line operations for optimal productivity.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the production staff and supervisors.
  • Coordinate with other departments to meet production goals and resolve issues.
  • Implement lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure safety regulations and quality specifications are met across shifts.
  • Monitor production metrics and maintain accurate records.

Job Title: Production Manager

Reports to: Plant Manager

Direct Reports: Production Supervisors, Extrusion Operators, Grinding Operators

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire production process within the manufacturing facility. This leadership role ensures efficient operations, compliance with safety and quality standards, and adherence to production schedules. The Production Manager leads a 24x7 team of supervisors and operators, collaborates with cross-functional departments, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize productivity, minimize waste, and maintain a safe work environment. This position is day shift, but the applicant will need to have the flexibility to shift their schedule and working hours as required to lead, mentor, and manage the night shift supervisors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Management

  • Plan, organize, and supervise daily extrusion line operations for optimal productivity.
  • Monitor and adjust production schedules to meet customer and business demands.
  • Ensure production activities align with company standards, policies, and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with other departments to meet goals and resolve production challenges.
  • Analyze production and operating reports to troubleshoot and resolve issues, reducing downtime.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and develop production staff, including supervisors and operators.
  • Provide regular training on production processes and safety standards.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Model leadership behaviors as a dependable and approachable role model.

Quality Control

  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure all products meet specifications.
  • Identify non-conforming material (NCM) and lead corrective actions using root cause analysis.
  • Implement and monitor quality assurance practices and track production metrics.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of raw material blending and extrusion practices.

Process Optimization

  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction.
  • Lead lean manufacturing and 5S initiatives to enhance production efficiency.
  • Work with engineering to improve equipment and production processes.
  • Ensure correct shutdown procedures for extrusion and downstream equipment.

Resource Management

  • Manage raw materials, labor, and equipment resources to ensure production flow.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with procurement for timely supply.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance schedules and coordinate necessary repairs.

Safety Compliance

  • Enforce OSHA and other safety regulations across all production activities.
  • Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and accountability across shifts.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare reports on production performance (output, efficiency, quality, downtime).
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance, and personnel activity.
  • Contribute to long-term strategic production planning with senior leadership.

Training Requirements

  • Defect Identification and Escalation
  • PE Pipe Coiling and Unloading
  • Gasket Installation and Machine Troubleshooting
  • Wall Thickness, Outer Diameter (O.D.), and Ovality Checks
  • Micrometer, O.D. Tape, and Caliper Use
  • Mold Block Setup and Gap Adjustments on Corrugated Lines
  • Material Blending Procedures (including repellitized materials and purging)

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Proven leadership in training, coaching, performance management, and employee relations
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing safety, quality, and operational best practices
  • Experience with continuous improvement (Lean, OSHA 10, Six Sigma preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills; fosters ownership and teamwork
  • Comfortable managing performance and driving accountability at all levels

Physical Demands

  • Standing for extended periods, bending, walking, and lifting (40-50 lbs frequently)
  • Use of a computer for scheduling, production entry, reporting, and personnel management

Work Environment

  • Exposure to standard manufacturing conditions, including heat, noise, and moving equipment
  • Loud noise levels; hearing protection provided
  • Industrial lighting, temperature variability due to machinery and exterior conditions
  • PPE required: steel/composite-toe shoes, safety glasses; other PPE for specific tasks
