Job summary

Camaco in Portage, Indiana seeks a Production Manager to lead the production department, directing staffing, scheduling, quality, materials, and safety to meet cost and performance targets. You will coordinate with maintenance and quality to optimize resources and drive continuous improvement on the plant floor and in corporate projects.

Responsibilities include supervising and developing staff, aligning production priorities, and working with engineering to implement line improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing management or related field, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience or equivalent in manufacturing leadership.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the production department personnel and priorities.
  • Coordinate with maintenance and quality for optimum utilization.
  • Implement methods to improve product quality and reduce issues.
  • Work with HR to manage headcount within budget and sales.
  • Supervise staff, train employees, conduct performance appraisals.
  • Revise schedules due to equipment issues and optimize lines.
  • Collaborate with engineering on machine/equipment improvements.
  • Lead special projects as directed by General Manager.
  • Maintain frequent communication with management and QA teams.
  • Ensure safety requirements are followed and enforce policies.

Job description

Purpose

The production manager is responsible for production-related communication flow and coordination between all company resources. This includes accountability for staffing, administration, production, quality, materials, equipment, schedule, cost, safety, housekeeping and the financial performance of the plant.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Manage the production department personnel.
  • Explain and direct production activities and establish production priorities.
  • Coordinate production activities with maintenance and quality to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
  • Implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operation problems and to improve product quality.
  • Work with human resources to establish and maintain corporate policies and manage overall headcount according to the budget and sales.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; performance appraisals; rewarding and discipline; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
  • Revise production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.
  • Consult with engineering relative to modifications of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products, or when developing new lines for a new product.
  • Manages special projects as requested by the General Manager.
  • Frequent communication with all levels of management, corporate support groups, Quality Assurance, and plant personnel.
  • Responsible for related safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing management, a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 8 plus years of experience, or equivalent.
